Star-D lens filters. Know anything about them?

I bought a few dozen new-old-stock filters recently. When culling them I discovered two "Star-D" filters. They are embossed with +1 and +2 designations. The front of the filter is convex, with the rear being concave. I have concluded that they are special-effect filters but at 49mm I have no way of testing them. My only 49mm lens is a prime, and it simply wont focus with these filters, which were made in Japan. I'd appreciate any information you may provide. I've searched online to no avail.

Thanks.

Might be Close-Up filters. Try them on a short prime and get about an inch to 4 inches from a subject.

These filters are supposed to emphasize the star-like effect we often see at bright points of light. Mostly this kind of effect is done with post-processing these days because much more control is possible.

Star-D is a brand from the 50's and 60's.These are close-up "filters" use them on any 49mm lens you just have to work closer.

I agree, they are close-up filters. I have a few of them as well, picked up at a flea market a few years ago. Samyang has been making lenses, filters and other related accessories under the Star-D brand name all the way up through the 1990's, and perhaps later. I've never encountered Star-D products dating before the 1960's, but I won't rule out the possibility that they do exist.

You are thinking of "Starburst" filters, Star D was a marketing brand.

And I owned a Star D tripod in the 1950's, purchased from Fedco, also a defunct brand.

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. I have a very sturdy tripod from them. If I remember correctly Freestyle Photography use to market that brand.

That brand goes back quite awhile. As I first became acquainted with that from my local Big Box camera store here in NYC "Camera Barn". They use to use that brand name Star for most of their non big brand name items, lenses, filters, flash's, tripods etc. I cannot tell U who made it for them, but they went out of business about 20 years ago here in NYC if memory serves me correctly. Hope that this helped for what it was worth. Merry Christmas everyone :)
