I don't want to beet a dead whores. But the attitude that form and mastery do not matter, if everyone knows what was meant is BULL. It started in the mid 1960's and was the downfall of our education system. We have never recovered. Noise on the communication model defeats the communication.

Oh, God. Did anyone not know what he was getting at???????????

They sell them in Walmart in boxes of 50 and 100. Just thought I would add this to your answer so people will know where to purchase them. Hope you don't mind....Rich

Interesting. A Walmart optometrist told me to never use those cleaning tissues on coated lenses.

I have used many, many, cleaners over my 60 years in photography. I now only use Zeiss Lens Cleaning Wipe. They are individually packaged and come pre moistened with Water, isopropyl alcohol, proprietary detergents and preservatives. They come in a box of 100 for about $8.00. They are great, I use them once and toss them. I carry several packs when I am out in the field. When I am done I just use my blower and I am ready to shoot. Why use anything but the best for your lenses.

Yep, me too!

I prefer using ZEISS Lens CLEANING Wipes... You can purchase in different quantities and they are also great for cleaning your eyeglasses. The price isn't bad either, go for it.

Is it not true that those who invented, designed, and make them choose the name "sensor," because it 'senses' information to capture. Censor is to 'proscibe.'

That was my point perhaps put differently. Though the OP did say it was a typo on his part. I think Censure means to "Proscribe."

It seems to me that this would be safe and effective. On the other hand, I'm sure censors don't have the same coatings that lenses do. Anyone have a definitive answer as to whether this is a safe thing to do?

Ben,

Oh, did one word take on a life of its own. Please tell me there is another language that unlike English does not have homonyms. Perhaps Chinese or Hebrew?

I don't usually react to speling errors. I create typos myself so how can I be critical when someone else does? However, in this case I feel compelled to speak up. Language is something we are gifted with so that we can communicate with each other as clearly as possible. Whether the word is censor or sensor, it was possible from the context to garner meaning and thus to know what was being communicated. So a correction wasn't really needed.

At the same time to correct someone is also positive. Language is a collection of sounds and words whose meaning is agreed to by us all. So in this case one can argue that the writer was doing someone a favour by offering up a correction. That kind of assistance helps us to always keep our language relatively pure. So the correction should be appreciated.

Where I have a problem with this posting is the response to the one offering the correction. I think that the sarcasm about the spelling of Nazi is unwarranted and below the belt.

So we have three players here. Let us forgive the one who made the typo, we all make typos sometimes. Let us thank the one who offered the correction for it helps some of us improve the use of the language. And let us feel sorry for the one who feels the second correction was out of line. They serve a useful purpose too, they make the rest of us look really good.

I'm OK with your explanation. I posted before you said "censor" was a typo. The spell checker does not pick up "censor" because it is a word, just a different word altogether.

My second point was

Lens - singular
Lenses - plural
Lense - is it a word? Amphoto, Kodak and the NYGS never heard of it.

Again, I only used "lense" as an example. I don't think you even used it.

PEACE!
I'm OK with your explanation. I posted before you... (show quote)

WIKI:

“Lense is accepted as an alternative spelling by Webster's Third New International Dictionary, but proscribed as a misspelling by Garner's Modern American Usage, Paul Brians’ Common Errors in English Usage, Robert Hartwell Fiske's Dictionary of Unendurable English and others.”

I’ll stick with Webster!

You can make your own out of clean (no added oils) denatured alcohol, But why risk it. Get a bottle of lens cleaner. Even if they are expensive, compared to make your own, you only use a couple of drops and a bottle lasts a looooong time.

Is the denatured alcohol in lens cleaners full strength or diluted with distilled water?

A "censor" is "an official who examines material that is about to be released, such as books, movies, news, and art, and suppresses any parts that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security."1

A "sensor" is "a device that detects or measures a physical property and records, indicates, or otherwise responds to it."2
