It seems to me that you probably don't need anything else at the moment. I have all three heads, a ball head, a tilt and swivel and a three way one. The latter gets used rarely and then mostly for landscapes and architecture. The pan head I use for tracking birds but nothing else. The ball head I use for everything.

As to a tripod or a monopod, I have both. The tripod gets used the most, the monopod is an occasional tool that I will use when I forgot the tripod or I didn't want to carry it.

Ultimately the answer to your question is to ask yourself what it is you plan to do in the future. For the moment it sounds like you really don't need any additional gear but perhaps in the future you will.

Thanks Bugfan.
I’m a believer in the saying “I rather have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it”. With that being said, and the GAS attack I had, I ordered a tilt, and a swivel to use on my mono and tripod. At some point I can sell whatever I don’t use.

Thanks to all of you for your valued and appreciated advice. I just purchased a Sirui VH-10 swivel and a L 05s.

Wish that everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!

Do you get good results with the monopod as it is now? I do not personally use a monopod, but I think the advantages over a tripod would be lighter weight and less space necessary to use one. A tilt-pan head would definitely add weight and bulk to your monopod. My recommendation would be to leave it as it is. If you want to use that kind of a head, put one on a tripod.

Thanks Michael, I needed the new gear for my tripod anyway, and can play around with it on both tri and mono.

I read someplace that a monopod only needs to allow for tilt … or was it pan? Swivel? Anyway, there's supposed to be a certain kind of head made just for monopods. You might Google it.

From what I been seeing a tilt is more for a monopod, but then again there is always a difference of opinion.

Thanks and take care.

I have learned more from you folks than I would have if I just read all the manuals out there. As far I'm concerned nothing beats hands on experience.
I have a Canon 7d MK II. The largest lens I'll be using is a Tamron 150-600 G2. I mainly shoot my granddaughter playing softball and not much else (So far). I also have a Sirui P-204 SR monopod. So here is my question: Since this monopod has the ability to tilt, and swivel would I need a head for it? I'm retiring in February and just want to get what I need before then.

I'm trying to keep the cost to around $125 max and the selection is huge.

Thanks for your help.

For speed of use, compositional accuracies, and PROPER use of a monopod, you WILL Need a tilt head on a monopod - unless you always shot straight eyelevel and NEVER shoot down or up.

Thanks Imagemeister.
I've always taken my pictures straight/eye level, but that has limited my ability to take various types of shots. That's way I asked the original question. I have just ordered a Tilt, and a pan head.

For BIF I have a Manfrotto 681B monopod and a Manfrotto 3262 Ball head IMO a great combination.

One handy use for a monopod is if you have difficulty getting down on the ground for some close up. Just take the picture upside down.

Also good for overhead shots - helps to have articulating LCD ! Also good for moving brush and limbs out of way - would not leave home without one.
