...interesting, I only deal with Bay Photo (tried all the cheep outlets like Costco years ago and never liked the outcome), it's an online thing but I wonder why I've never been asked to sign a waiver or anything like that. I process pix for friends on occasion, so the images are certainly not all mine...hmmmmm. Good that you got the 'stroke!

My x-wife got me to print a photo of our great grandchildren because they wouldn't print it at Walmart. They told her it was done by a professional but it was our granddaughter (their mother) that took the picture. She is not a professional by any means and probably taken with her phone. The composition was good but the quality was terrible so I don't know what made them think it was a professional photo and refuse to print it.
I saw your grandkids shots and they look much better than the one my granddaughter took that Walmart refused to print and better than some that were done by a pro of my other grandkids.

Unfortunately, that type of comment has appeared here many times. Print makers are so afraid of violating a pro's copyright that they refuse to print anything they think looks good. Pathetic situation. I'm glad you were able to get yours printed.

Since sometimes, like the 1,000 blind monkeys, I produce a good image that Printers have copyright concerns about. AND, because I have a copyright in my EXIF, and my files are bigger than phone photo files, I include a release in a Word file with any photos I send to people who will print them. Encouraging protection of Intellectual and artistic property and rights is the right thing to do. When encountering such questions, let's all thank the printers and provide tools to make their jobs, and vigilance easier.

Awesome. Even shooting for yourself, hearing a "thank you" or that shots look pro feels nice.

That would never happen at the Costco I use. They have many professional customers. Yes you can get better work done at a high end lab, but if you do a few cycles with Costco you can get consistently excellent work.

I left Walmart for that reason. Got tired of telling multiple employees my waiver is on file and I am not going to sign them each time someone has an opinion on what is or is not "professional". Love Costco! Yeah, it feels good - the first time. lol

So....my daughter went to Walmart today to have prints made of some of the pictures I recently took of the grandchildren but the folks there at first refused to do it because there were no copyright watermarks. Sarah explained that I had taken them and they had her sign a waiver affirming that and said they thought the shots were taken by a professional. Made my day!!

Strange, usually they will not print if there is a watermark

I've had the same thing happen to me now the last 3 times I have had pictures printed at Walmart. The first time the girl at the counter wanted to argue about it and kept saying she need a release from the photographer that took the pictures. I told her I took the pictures and it went back and forth like that several times until I asked her how they make the determination of who the photographer actually is? She told me they look at the pictures and if they feel they look too good they make the call. At that point I told her "now I am insulted", I want to see your manager. She then said I would have to sign the forms stating I am the photographer and when I reached for them she warned me they would be kept on file for a year. I told her I did't care how long they keep them on file I just want my pictures. It took close to half an hour but I finally got them.
