Disgussion about lens

We had talked about the best walk around lens for the Canon 80D it doesn't weigh to much.
I am using the 18-200 right now as a walk around but at 22.2 oz it gets a little heavy for me spending halve a day shooting.
Any suggestions?

The one that usually comes with it is the 18-135, made in 3 versions $500, $550 and $600 different AF motors and Image Stabilization is a bit different. 16 oz, 16.9 oz and 18.2 oz.
Or if you give up the wide end the 55-250 is only 13 oz, but then you would need a wide angle lens to carry also.
The 18-55 is less than 8 oz so the two would be just under the weight of the one your are using. But one would be in a bag or whatever while you used the other.
Since carrying weight is the worry, you could have the 18-55 on camera and the 55-250 in a bag or belt pouch.
If you usually use only the wide end and the long end than a 10-18 and the 55-250 would make a decent combo.

Thank you for both suggestions. I never thought about to carry two lenses, good idea.

24-70 isn't a light lens I don't think so.

I have a 28mm prime lens already so I need only a 55 - 250.

My husband just reminded me I have a cross body strap why don't I use that and use my 18 - 200 lens.
I have to think about this one a while. I may get the 18-135 lens.

That whole setup is great. I can't think of anything that would be better or lighter for you.

Yes you are right on no better setup. I stay with that one unless my hubby decides to get me a better walk around lens
for Christmas. I seen him on the computer looking at lenses.

35mm f1.8 prime. Lightweight, sharp, cheap and fast. Zoom with your feet.😃

There are better lenses out there that your hubby could buy, but they would all probably be heavier and the focal range wouldn't be as great as what you already have.

I am a great proponent of the Sigma 17-70, but it weighs a POUND, almost as much as the Op's lens. I use it a lot. I'm leaning toward a 24mm 2.8 pancake on camera and the 17-70 when I want to make a photograph requiring longer or shorter focal lengths. The 24mm on the Canon APS-C is 38mm which is a Wide Normal field of view. feet were made for zooming when you're walking around.

The additional benefit is the pancake design keeps to overall combo small and far less intimidating and off-putting for people shots.

That's what's on My Christmas list.

The 40mm pancake is also quite nice - maybe the pair ??

BTW, 16oz beats 22.2 .....last time I looked.

I use a Sigma 17-50 2.8 on my D500. It is a fantastic lens and the one I recommend to anyone who asks about a crop sensor good walk around lens.
