Shooting the super moon tonight, I dropped my camera on concrete. It appears that the lens mount snapped off the body, still attached to the lens. Obviously, I will be at my local Nikon dealer first thing in the morning but I’m wondering if anyone can take a guess as to whether or not this is repairable or if I have destroyed it for good?

That is so sad -I hope you have insurance and/or it is repairable. I am sorry.

Here's a link to a recent topic similar to yours. The OP has added info at the end of the thread regarding how he had his repaired. There may be some info that will help you. Good luck. It must be heart breaking!

It saves the tech from having to remove the lens mount.

Seriously though, there is a good likelihood it can be fixed. But it ain't gonna be cheap. If you have insurance, you needn't worry.

It would cost less than $2000 and I am sure of that.

I'm guessing the damage wasn't catastrophic.

Not necessarily stupid. I have no camera insurance, and I haven't needed it for fifty years. If I had paid $100/year for insurance, that's $5,000 I would have kissed goodbye. It's the same with car insurance. The only thing it has ever paid for was the replacement or a couple of windshields. Insurance of any kind is a gamble, and I'm not a gambling man. I do have life insurance because that isn't a gamble.

I did the exact same thing to my D810. Broke plastic away with the lens mount. Nikon repaired it like new for around $300. I had zero hope for it!!
