i am needed help. my protection lens cracked.
if you can't remove the filter, take it to a reputable shop and let the pros handle it. they will also be able to tell you if the lens itself was damaged.
this is why i keep a UV filter on my lenses at all times. i'd rather buy a new filter for $40 than a new lens for, oh, something around $1000...

Had a similar problem when I fell while hiking. Took my camera to a local camera repair shop in Tempe , AZ. They were able to fix the problem for me in a couple of minutes. It is not a difficult repair if the person knows what they are doing and has appropriate tools.
I've heard of this happening to someone else before. Once you get a solution, I hope you'll share so that if anyone else experiences this misfortune, they'll be in less of a panic over what to try.

If all you have to do is remove the ring of a filter you can cut it w. a hack saw. Just be extra careful cleaning the metal dust off the lens. Leave 1 particle and you'll scratch the front element when cleaning it afterwards. Look for thread repair tool on the 'net.

Ouch. Sorry to hear you had to pay so much for a new protective lens. At least you got the issue resolved though. Sometimes it's worth a little extra to get local attention.
