I need constructive criticism on this shot. I think I did a good job, but am a firm believer that there is always room for improvement.

I would have raised the camera just enough to get rid of the road, it adds nothing to the photo, or step to the left and shoot only that side minus the road.

I would do a low shot from the center of the road looking down the road to the horizon. That way your eyes follow the road to the wider view that culminates with the mountains in the distance. Dale

Its a pretty picture of a pretty place. I think that a circular polarizer would have made it really "pop".

What are you trying to say in this image? What is the focal point.

This was during a road trip. I had to pull over to the side of the road to take the shot. Honestly, I was overwhelmed at the sight of the mountains and the road leading into the canyon.

You did do a good job! I like the road, it give it scale! I'd crop a bit off the bottom to get rid of the gravel on the right and clone out the signs. Maybe just a shade lighter. It's a great image you have every right to be proud of it!

Sorry, I am fairly new to this DSLR photography, and still learning. When you say circular polarizer, are you talking about the filter that has "CPL" on the side? I bought this 3 set filter: UV, FLD and CPL. Also, this photo was taken a week before I got my DSLR. Used a p&s camera here. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

I agree, move to the center of the road. but....move the road to the right so that the curve to the left brings your eye more to the main area which in this case tends to be the notch and clouds. also. a polarizing filter would have been appropriate to use. Also, not so much road.

Once you get used to your new DSLR, put on that CPL filter on a bright day and aim it at the clouds, then rotate it. You'll see what I mean. You are doing fine, just shoot and have fun. Keep posting!

Hi Nickey,

It's a real nice picture. Does the picture you took have the same impact as what you saw. If you can capture that same feeling then you have accomplish your goal. This is just my opinion. There are some wonderful places to shoot in Arizona. I was there in May, wish I was there now!

I like your photo. I think that the sky is fine, but the ground is a bit dark. That can be easily corrected in post processing.

My one suggestion is to clone-out the traffic signs & road markers, as well as the one distant white building.

I sure will, especially the rotating part. Thanks for the hint.
