Glenfinnan is a hamlet in Lochaber area of the Highlands of Scotland. In 1745 the Jacobite Rising began here when Prince Charles Edward Stuart raised his standard on the shores of Loch Shiel after his return from Skye. Seventy years later, the 18 m Glenfinnan Monument, at the head of the loch, was erected to commemorate the historic event.

What a beautiful, beautiful shot. Would love to walk about and back to the church. Or perhaps it is a large house.

Great pic! Î know it quite well. My daughter got married at the hotel you can see onthe RHS in the mid distance and lives in the area (although coming back to NZ with her family next year for a while). They do great meals there too. It was snowing there as few days ago.city it is about 30 hours flying away.
BTW if you are going to that area from abroad try flying into Inverness. Last time we went through Amsterdam and into Inverness. Lovely friendly Customs etc officials.

Thanks David, I had no doubt you've seen that view a few times? We've just done the 500 in a motorhome but Glenfinnan is always on our list when we are back home-----------

Hi Geoff

I am ashamed to have to tell you that I have not in fact been there since I was a young lad. I definitely need to get up there and do the 500.

Thanks a lot eb, I've seen eagles but all the times I've been I've not seen the steam train go over the viaduct, but I have been over it, maybe one day I will be lucky.
