I've recently purchased a Panasoinc FZ1000 camera, the retailer offered to sell me a 4 year warranty for $100.00 Cdn. on sale (regular price 140.00Cdn) is it worth buying? Has anyone experience the camera failing to perform? My research indicated it is a popular selling the camera has been on the market for about three years. Your comments much appreciated. Thanks
I would suggest not purchasing the warranty. My Canon 20D, purchased in 2004, was still perfect in 2013 when I sold it. I've had others that lasted too.

I don't know if it is different for Canada, but Panasonic has been giving a two year warranty extension (so three years) through Panasonic on all new camera and lens purchases from an authorized Panasonic dealer. You can get that info by looking up the FZ1000 on Panasonic's shopping site. It is through March 2018.

Still have my 20D and it still works.
My general practice is to forgo extended warranties. Period. I don’t think it’s a wise practice. But that’s just my opinion.

I've been using good cameras for about fifty years, and I've never had to get one repaired.

My experience is the same. The only repairs I’ve done have been old gear. That has been limited to freeing mirrors in the up position and replacing mirror pads and seals. If I did more, I’d likely have extra parts...

Before you jump, check out a Squaretrade warranty. Excellent company. squaretrade.com >Alan
Have never had an extended warranty on any of my cameras and have not needed it. Take care of your gear and it takes care of you. They only time I've sent a camera into Canon was just recently and it's the oldest DSLR I have, a Canon 5D and after 11 years I figured it needed a good cleaning after almost 100,000 clicks. That was my choice and it came back with a clean bill of health and is still clicking along. I've been shooting over 40 years and this is my experience...If it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to have that extra coverage than go for it.

I have bought Squaretrade warranties for used cameras, and I'm glad I did. They paid off.
