Why be sorry. It would appear that's the best you have to offer.

We live in a time, unfortunately, that has technology which allows people to unload their own frustrations on others anonymously. I have been the recipient of such unfeeling and cruel folk. So I just avoid them. Their small mindedness is their problem.

I have recently had a most unpleasant experience with some ‘members’ on the site. I commented on a submission of images by a member stating that I could not understand the story that was being told by the photographer. I did not malign the photographer or call him negative and distasteful names. Rather, I was maligned and called a ‘troll’, whatever this means. The photographer apparently has friends in the site and they ganged up with very disrespectful posts. My understanding of a forum is that when you post images you may receive a critique that you don’t agree with. So be it. If you don’t want feedback and if you only want glowing reports on your work, perhaps you should reconsider the decision to post. I will leave this site as I have a very bad taste by a number of immature and insecure people with whom I do not wish to be further involved. Good luck to all of you. To those who were engaged in the name calling and other distasteful comments, shame on you.

Please reconsider. I hope you will take a breath and give us a second chance. I see you have had only 5 posts. I have over 150 and I have seen only a small number of inappropriate posts, however, if you can "consider the source" of the few with psychological issues and move on, you will find that this site gives you the opportunity to interact with hundreds of very talented and technically knowledgeable people and allow you to grow your own talent as a photographer whether or not you are a professional or amature.

Nor should it be a minefield.
I posted a personal opinion a while back about "lenses" and "glass". I thought it was a throw away comment and wouldn't get much of a response. Turned out I was wrong about that. That post got more remarks than any other posts I have made here. Seems I offended a lot of people and took a lot heat with that personal opinion. Since then I refrain from making too many comments and is the reason for my bye line at the bottom. I have spent time writing a comment on many threads only to close it down before hitting 'Send'. Seems it doesn't take much to offend some people these days and not just here but everywhere.
Some of the responses I received in the first two pages of what turned out to be six pages of commentary:
"Or maybe your are being sarcastic? Or just silly. Or petulant"
"Are you now having a stiff drink and smoke?"
"But go BIG, or go home!!"
"have you gone off your meds?"
"I'll bet you call your wife ma'am don't you!!!"
"And if you don't want snarky responses, don't make snarky posts". I didn't think it was snarky, just my opinion.
These were copied and pasted and any spelling and grammar errors are how they appeared in the original posts.

I wouldn't let one or two people steer your course. It's unfortunate that this happens when you are so new, but UHH is a really good, and very valuable, site. Happy Thanksgiving and Best of Luck. Enjoy your photography!

Why do you hrcers have to bring up our President who I believe is doing a wonderful job. People like you should leave the site, not people who want to contribute in a positive light. I have always liked positive criticism. You learn from it. I guess you can learn from crooked witches also.
I feel I have to point out that your last sentence is a bit hipocritical in light the rest of your post.
Just finished a book on the life of Leonardo de Vince. He most obviously was a incredibly talented. Yet, during his lifetime he had his distractors, folks who were jealous and envious of his talent. Sadly, there are a few of those same types of folks in every forum. It's part of life; something we all have to deal with.
Concerning the above post, not wanting someone finding fault with my comment, please excuse the typo, it should read, "incredibly talented." Just pretend the "a" wasn't there.

Thank you for your helpful contribution to this discussion concerning the appropriateness of making a critical comment on a photo whose poster reads "Comments welcome."
-edit - I started by leaving a long thoughtful note for you. Then I noticed you're leaving so you won't see it. You mention you don't know what a troll is. There's another Internet term you should know. YAGE - it stands for Yet Another Grand Exit. Buh Bye.
Well spoken and so true,
as is all in life there are some we just have to ignore.
Seek the good and the good will come to you.
As for me being new, I am open to honest and intelligent criticism/opinions as a learning process.
