This reminds me of the controversy with Billy the Kid - was he left handed? This idea was reinforced by the Paul Newman movie "The Left Handed Gun". It was believed he was left handed based on the only known photo of him with his pistol on his left side. But it was determined that the photo was printed backward based on the loading port on the rifle he was holding.

If he were a woman, yes they would be on the wrong side. Put your suit jacket on and try for yourself. That said; after reading the link, the Marine guard behind them has his ribbons on the wrong side of his chest. He should be court martialed!
