Please don't forward this obscure junk to anybody else. It's a piece of junk that is years old.....Leopard??!!! Really, I had forgotten about that OS from the 1980's. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving.

For all you youngsters that never saw the Mac vs PC commercials on tv, go to YouTube and type in Mac vs PC Commercials. They are still so funny. I don't know how much has changed from the PC offerings and the poor old "PC guy" is still left wanting. These are still cute and my grandkids really laughed, so they were fun to watch, especially the one where the PC and Mac guy were holding hands, emulating a network. Then the "latest Japanese camera girl attaches to the Mac guy; they start speaking Japanese, leaving the PC guy amazed and speechless; then she pulls an 8x10 from behind---ya gotta see it. These brought back such funny memories and it would be worth Apple to re-run them at Christmas, but I suppose the word is out now and they don't need the advertising.

That sounds about right, they did not really want their OS running on white boxes.

At one time I did build my own computers. Not only was I able to get exactly what I wanted, but I was able to build a photo specific machine. Saved some money doing this. Unfortunately the weak point was always the Windows operating system and its constant, weekly updating that caused most of the agita. When I switched to Mac I did pay more, but I gave up all the hassle. Sure Apple is less upgradeable and much pickier about what it will work with, but that's all for the reason of compatibility. At my current point in life I do not enjoy spending my time 'getting my system to work' and with Apple I don't need to do that. Works well for me and there is no way I would go back. Works for me and that's what counts for me. YMMV.

I have a friend from Peru who has built and configured a desktop PC and a Laptop PC to work perfectly with Mac OS. He is an incredible videographer and photographer and editor. I'll see if I can get more details from him about his computers... Me, I started out with a 2008 iMac 24" after years of building and contantly upgrading PC's. For me that was fun and kind of miss not being able to mess around with Mac's. I now have a Mac Mini for a video server in my living room and I'm using a MBP with an Asus monitor in my home office. My son has a new iMac with a ton of ram and good SSD drive and edits music, videos and pictures. He has a recording studio at his apartment... http://www.stephencamera.com/ His day job is with Tesla in Fremont. His department is over service world wide. Keeps him busy but he prefers music and video... He is a very good guitar player and fills in at churches when they need a fill in for players going on vacations or having to miss a service... https://www.pyramind.com/training/

Yeah, probably right about that. Even today, the numbers of Windows users are WAY more than there are Mac users. Always has been, always will be.

That’s due to the failure of corporate accountants to understand Total Cost of Ownership over the life of a computer.

It’s also due to Microsoft’s early relationship with IBM that led to the PC. Back then, few corporations would buy any other brand of mainframe or mini-computer, so IBM had a mainline to corporate IT departments. Once clones were available, Microsoft had a ready-made market. “No self-respecting IT manager or CIO would trust a couple of hippies who started a computer company in a garage,” was a phrase I heard.

All that was a complete misperception, but popular products often succeed for all the wrong reasons.

One GOOD reason Windows PCs have the lions’ share of the market? They’re cheap up front. IT folks love that, because it keeps them employed, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, explaining, and replacing them.

But large educational institutions, IBM, and GE are getting smarter about TCO and ease of use...

Oh yes, there used to be a saying in many companies - "No one ever got fired for buying IBM".... well, until IBM screwed up a college computerization project... and the project leader did get fired, then that saying disappeared.

Whoa.I have a Macbook 2010 and later personally upgraded the RAM from 4 GB to 8. I also doubled the hard drive from 250 to 750GB. Neither job was too difficult. Any shop could have done it. Anyone who says Macs are not upgradeable does not know MACS. If you have an Iphone or and IPAD the syncs are seamless. If you have other Apple products, get a MAC.

Yes - the old Macs were upragedable -- now let's circle back to the present day -- every single component on a 2017 Mac laptop is soldered on to the motherboard -- cpu, storage (ssd), and memory -- absolutely not upgradeable. And that silly touch strip that they charge an extra $300 for?

In the end, it really is a price issue. There is nothing you can do with a Mac that you can't do a PC and vice versa -- it's just that the Mac is more expensive. The Mac fan will argue that subjectives like quality and ease of use are worth the Apple tax -- but the realities really are these are just subjectives -- we could argue all day about subjectives, because they are subjective.

I have a friend who is an IT Manager for a small company that is an Apple shop -- and believe me there is no savings in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) with Apple -- again a lot of subjectives from Apple fans. Believe me Apple stuff breaks down just as much as the PC stuff does, it's just that the Apple fans have very selective memories. This company bought the Apple Cinema monitors because they look "cool", but lots of failures with this monitor -- now this company is replacing the ones that break down with regular monitors. They realized that they can get monitors with equal display specs for 60% of the price. Ok -- these monitors don't look as cool but $600 versus $1000 is a pretty significant difference.

Personally -- after the "Trashintosh" debacle -- and the "touch strip" nonsense -- I've been seeing a lot of people moving back to the PC.
