The Presidential Palace in Nanjing is top tourist attraction. Its history dates back to the Ming Dynasty, and it served as the office of the President from 1927 to 1949 (except for the period 1937 - 1945 when Japanese troops occupied Nanjing, then Nanking.)
There is a man-made roughly rectangular lake named Taiping in the complex. It is tranquil and surrounded by beautiful buildings. We visited as the sun was setting, so it was a prime golden hour opportunity.
I'm including the Wiki discussion for the first picture, "The Attic of Joy":
The Attic of Joy, alternatively called the Pavilion that Forgetting to Fly and the Waterside Pavilion, was rebuilt in 1870 on the eastern lakeside of the garden. The government official once worked here were surprised at the attractive view and believed that "if the birds saw the view here, they would have so much joy that they could forget how to fly". That was the origin of the name. In 1930s, this attic once served as one of the offices of the Military Affairs Commission, one of the most powerful organizations in Nationalist China.

Thank you, Karin. I remember thinking, as I took looked at the LCD "I hope this is as good on the computer screen." It worked it out well.

Thank you, vonzip. I had missed you on UHH before, but I see from your profile you have been prolific in your first two months. Welcome...and keep 'em coming.

Excellent set Dave.
Many thanks, Jim.
I'm wondering if your postings are not making it to my "Newest Pictures". That is my normal starting point these days. I had thought you might be off on a long photo safari, but I see you have posted a lot recently and I don't remember seeing your shots on Newest Pictures. Strange things happen on UHH some times.
