We bought some property last year that is heavily wooded and filled with granite boulders (this is New England after all) and many of the old trees that tried to grow on top of the granite ledges have been blown over to reveal their root systems which had grown out flat over the granite and now that they are exposed have developed into small ecosystems of moss ferns and fungi. The tree in this posting is facing a direction which keeps the underneath of the root system in the shad all day. The sun never reaches it. Although we will be clearing the actual tree I am going to leave this overturned root system as it is.

Low key is my key, opens the doors of my mind and my mind likes it because it doesn't have to wear glasses.

Interesting shots. Trees are wondrous things. Even so I would not have guess that they would be granitiverous.
