What about merely using the RAW converter program softwares what come with specific camera systems like Nikon, Canon, etc? I know they leave out all the various creative functions of the "big" programs but might that not be an issue if we only want to process and enhance our raw files for personal viewing or printing?

Mikedent, that's exactly what I am doing currently, just want to get something with a little more "effects and such" to enhance pictures, especially of the Grandkids!
Thanks for your reply!

After I read your post, I was looking through a Staples web site and there was Elements 18 for $69.99 Canadian. OMG... decisions.... I ordered it and it was a download only but I'm fine with that. Everything went well until I clicked on the desk top icon and it gave an error number. OH NO.....gads.. Finally phoned the help line for Elements and the technician actually did the "over the shoulder" technique and cleared up the mess I was making by blindly trying to fix it. End result...IT WORKS JUST FINE. No problems with loading RAW and the set up and all the new features and options are just great. I still kept my Elements 12 but as I get to know the new features in 18, I will probably remove it.
The Elements 18 was a good move.
