I would like to purchase a used Sony body to use with my scope for bird-spotting, etc. I have several older Minolta AF lens I would like to use with the newer body. I have been looking at the Sony a77 and a77 II which will evidently accept my older lens. However, I have read that the electronic viewfinder image on these cameras are dim due to the translucent mirror. Would this make it difficult to compose and focus using with a spotting scope? What is the best body choice for bird-spotting that will also accept my older Minolta AF lens for general photography?
I have an A-77 and a couple dozen minolta af lenses, they work together seamlessly. I have no problms with the evf and find to be very bright and in low lihgt prefer it to an optical view finder. Bif will be no problem for the camera. No experience with a spotting scope so can't say on that. Best one for me would be the A-99ii but currently out of my budget.
Welcome to the Hog, enjoy.
Look at the Sony A99ii. If you can past the price, it is another great camera for Sony.
The A77ii is an excellent camera.
There is no dimming of the EVF due to the translucent mirror.
The brightness of the EVF is manually/automatically adjusted.
I used one extensively with the Sony 70-400mm and Sigma 50-500mm zooms when I was doing bird photography.
I currently own two A77ii bodies but I am selling one since I find I don't need both.
PM if you are interested.
