Common milkweed has gone to seed and the pods are splitting open, releasing the seeds with their little parachutes.

Amazing plants and beautiful shots, Mike.
Nature is so amazing! Your lovely shots captured the silky beauty of the parachutes that spread these seed.
#3 is stunning! A high-impact composition with the strong vertical on the right, the seed seemingly unwilling to make the jump
and the silk spread out to three edges of the frame. Absolutely gorgeous, carefully considered and shot.
Lovely delicate shots, Mike.... mine went to seed already and I've been sharing them with quite a few hoggers.... we need to help the monarchs!!
Beautiful...just beautiful!

Thanks. That one had already flown off and then caught on the stem of another plant.

Yes, I know! It is just amazing that all of that happens in such a short period of time, and that the whole contraption works. So intricate and complex.

Great shots, Mike!
So interesting to see what the pods look like just before the seeds fly away.
Nice set and also love it's beauty at this stage!

Thanks, Tom. High winds, snow and freezing temperatures today, so I am glad I got out there when I did.
We should list the rules:
1. Shoot 'em when you see 'em.
2. Getting out there doesn't guarantee you will get a good shot, but not going out guarantees you won't.
3. The only bad photograph is the one you didn't take.
