Hello! I just joined the group as I've really enjoyed reading the great comments. Has anyone who has used Picasa (before it was discontinued by Google) "lost" some photos when Google supposedly transferred all Picasa photos onto Google Photo? A good number of my photos that were on Picasa have disappeared and do not show on Google Photo. Thanks for any thoughts on this. And just curious, how did this forum get its name "Ugly Hedgehog"?

Regarding your last question, that has come up numerous times. The answer is, no one know except the sysop, and he's not saying!

Alan,
Picasa does not store photos. All photos are stored on your computer. Picasa is able to view them.
This is from Picasa information:
The Picasa software provides a simple way to view, edit, and organize the photos on your computer. As you get started, there are two things you should always remember:
Picasa does not store the photos on your computer.
When you open Picasa, it simply looks at the folders on your computer and displays the photos it finds. It displays the file types that you tell it to find, in the folders that you tell it to search.
Your original photos are always preserved.
When using editing tools in Picasa, your original files are never touched. The photo edits you make are only viewable in Picasa until you decide to save your changes. Even then, Picasa creates a new version of the photo with your edits applied, leaving the original file totally preserved.

Hope this helps to clarify.
Mark

Mark:
I have used Picasa for years and continue to do so for quick and dirty photo sharing.
Many on UHH have asked questions about Picasa, and your clear and accurate explanation should be very helpful to them.

Thank you, Mark, for your clear explanation. Maybe you can help me with my problem. I have been using LR CC for a while now but had left LR 4 on my computer. Trying to free up a little room I removed LR 4. LR CC now has photos from 2013, but the photos from 2007-2013 are not listed. I know they are in “my photos.” What do you suggest for getting them into LR CC? And, in advance, thank you for another one of your clear explanations!!

Mark,
Thank you for this information about Picasa. Did not know that. Good to know my photos are still out there.

Are you referring to Picasa Web Albums - where they do store your photos - this link is for GB users but I would think the same issues apply where ever you live.
