In the words of Kodak, "film photography will never be replaced by digital photography."
"What Are You Going to Do When Phones Replace Your DSLR?"
To buy another dSLR camera.
Phones should be phones. as cameras they are pretty much rinky dink. let's face it. They are a nice toy for kids who like to take selfies. LOL
I doubt if I'll live that lo.ng
I don’t believe that cellphone cameras will ever replace DSLR’s or upper end mirrorless cameras, however I do believe that as cellphone camera technology advances, camera manufacturers will have to up their game to stay ahead within the realm of “real” cameras.
I will start using a cellphone camera for taking picture when they come up with one that has an eye-level viewfinder instead of a crappy viewing screen. Until that happens I will continue to use my old DSLR until it dies. They I will give up with photography all together.
Guessing by that time, phones will be as big as cameras, so I doubt it will matter at all.
Here we go again, another gloom & doom article about smart phones taking over the photographic industry. Taking pictures with smart phones is for the point & shoot crowd. People who don't care how a real camera works and don't care how a photo turns out like. Since you posted this stupid article...you belong with the point & shoot crowd.
A lot quicker and easier to use with excellent results in low light.
Moreover, the new iPhone saves the photo in a better format (HEIC) which has a larger color gamut than we are getting with jpeg. It is enough better, I would sure like to see Nikon back this into my very expensive camera and Adobe into their products, for those who still do most of our photos in jpeg instead of raw. (10 bit color depth instead of 8 and a smaller storage size) It is a measurable improvement over jpeg encoding and probably could be done with a software patch on most upper end cameras.
Let me know when phones come with 400mm f2.8 lenses.

Never say never. I think the current cameras will eventually, in the future, become a genre similar to the role that sheet film view cameras play with respect to the stand-alone bridge and DSLR cameras of today. It may take awhile....
I can't fault the phrase: ":They (sic) will always be photographers using cameras." It's just that we can't predict accurately what those cameras will be like.

Anyone saying "Never" is wrong. The iPhone X is called the X because the first iPhone came out 10 years ago. If you look at the progress made to the capabilities of the built in cameras in the past 10 years compared to the progress in DSLRs in the past 10 years, it becomes obvious that the improvement curve is appreciably steeper for the smart phone. In the next 10 years the abilities of the smart phone may surpass those of the DSLR. The handwriting is on the wall. Back in 1900, people were saying that the automobile would never replace the horse and carriage. Guess what! There are not too many buggies around these days. We old folks never like change but change is inevitable. How many of us still shoot with film? The next best thing is always out there.
I think it’s pointless to denigrate cellphone cameras as not “real” cameras and those who use them as not “real” photographers or those who don’t know anything about phtography. A camera is a camera, whatever body it comes in. Plenty of people just want to take pictures without the bother of having to deal with settings, lenses, and are content to point and shoot. There’s certainly no dishonor in that. To suggest that such a person is some sort of second or third rate is rather on the elitist side, in my opinion.
