I have a question for the group. In the foreseeable future I will upgrade my D7000. The reason I wish to upgrade is my understanding that the autofocus engine of these cameras is quite a bit better than my D7000. And for the purists, yes I know I must grow my technique as well.

The D500 is simply out of my reach. I will go the refurb route. So the question for me is 7200 vs 7500. I do know that the 7500 is in some ways a D500 with regard to image processing. I’m not a fan of a single card slot, but many would say ‘get over it’.

So I would appreciate it if folks on the list might offer their experiences with either of these bodies or if anyone has compared them on their own. My principal lenses are Tamron 16-300 and 150-600 G2 w/matched 1.4x.

I always look for reviews and comparisons before I buy anything.

The autofocus features are said to be better on the D7200 and D7500.

The D500 shares more of it's imaging processing with the D5 than the D7500, it is a cost thing, the more you spend on a Nikon, the further up the food chain you go (generally speaking of course). If it was me, and it was a while ago, I went with the D500 and have been extremely pleased.
I am sure both the D7500 and the D500 will have black friday and ciber monday sales promotions and Nikon will again offer discounts around Christmas. Patience here will be rewarded.

There is always someone who will say something like this. You said the D500 is out of your reach...

I just looked at refurbished D500’s on Amazon. They cost approximately $250 over the D7500.

Can you save a little more for a refurbished Nikon D500?

I hade to make the same choice prior to a trip to Europe last summer and after careful evaluation of both the D7200 and D7500 I went with the D7500. I don't regret it one bit. It takes great high speed photos as well as those requiring longer exposure.

Is that it?

Let me tell you - the thought never ever crossed my mind ... I only put up Topic Posts for subjects which concern me ...

Since there are so many ... I decided a couple weeks back - I'd limit these to two per day ...

And, since making that pledge ... I've done exactly that ...

If I thought I were in some kind of contest - believe me - I'd not have done that!

Enough said!

I have been enjoying this thread because I am in a similar boat; I am planning to upgrade from my old, lowly, trusty-rusty D5200, RSN. I was considering the D500 or the D7200 and leaving the D7500 aside, but more recently it's become a race between the D7500 and the D500. Money is not really an problem though I do not like to spend it needlessly. That said, I see the D500 as THE camera but I'm hesitating because it has a LOT of features that I would probably never use such as the two slots and the available power pack, but then again, who knows? If they are available I might just get them, thus spending more money on things that I may not ever use to proper effect.

Of course, the D500 is already what, 2 years old? Does that mean a D510 is coming or like the D300, its follow-on is years away? I'm betting it will be like the D300.

Food for thought on a Sunday morning.

I upgraded from the D5500 to the D500. I considered going with a D7200 or D7500, but I'm glad I waited and saved more pennies for the D500. If it was me . . . I'd save and maybe sell something so I could get the D500. Save more money and get the D500 . . . Anything less will disappoint in some areas . . .

When I purchased my D500 it was sold with the power grip which I felt was not needed but soon discovered that it uses much more battery than my D7100 does. Glad now that I have it.

He said he had the money so...
Consider the D850. LOL
Regarding a battery grub there are aftermarket units that cost about $75 bucks. Don’t buy the one with the IR remote. D500 does not offer IR. Mine works fine. I forget the model.

Regarding two memory slots. I use the WXD RAW and SD JOEG.

Great czmera. Love it. Out now with my 200-500 lens taking a rest shorting burds at the Orlando Wetland Park.

Nah, I'm fine with DX format. I have lots of lenses and I'm not making a living peddling my photos.

A grub? And a battery one at that? Wow, you can really put anything on a D500.

Not clear what WXD is and I think you mean JPEG.

That's a new exclamation I had not heard before. Sounds like "Great eczema." How funny.

How do you short burds? Why? What's a burd?
I'm here to learn.
