Well, Saturday's the day. My SD trip from 7/14-7/23. This is the equipment list:
Canon EOS Rebel T3
Canon SX40-ES (just got it and I love it!)
75-300mm and 24-105L lenses
CPL, UV Filter (very windy and dusty out there)
Manfrotto Monopod with Shoulder Brace
Limited to one small bag for the equipment. Carry-on of course.
Advice or comments much appreciated.
I would suggest an extra battery, a micro fiber lens cloth and/or a lenspen.
What type of bag are you carrying your gear in?
Yup, got all that little stuff. I'm packing it in a small hardbody case with wheels. It will be very secure. I'm bringing a small camera bag and a photographer's vest.
my only advice is if you go to the Black Hills, go to the Alpine Inn in Hill City for the Fillet Mignon, its the best I've ever had
We are going on a road trip to the Black Hills. I was thinking of asking the same question.
Larry
My advise, just enjoy, fantastic state, and great photo opportunities. ENJOY,ENJOY,ENJOY!!
Spare batteries and battery charger.
Make sure you have your SD cards installed and at least one spare.
There are some fabulous caves in the Black Hills. If you want to do any good with them a flash...or at least a flashlight...will help.
Check! (The caves sound great, but I'm extremely claustrophobic. I'll have to set my camera up and have one of my friends try to snap a few!)
By the way, what kind of bird is that in your Avatar?
Not sure what kind of bird...some kind of Eagle. I took his photo at the Birds of Prey exhibit near Boise, ID. I thought he was a very cool guy.

The manuals for Canon cameras are small in size. I suggest you pack the manuals for each of your cameras. Could be a "trip saver" should you encounter any problems.

Ah, then I definitely retract my cave suggestion. While they have some big rooms they also have some tight places to go through and they all like to make you experience it with all the lights off.
