Introduction to.... well.. me!
Hello to y'all. I am Mike, otherwise known by my amateur radio call sign, W7MEV.
I have been active in photography one way or another most of my life, starting in the '50s with both a 35mm and a 4x5 Speed Graphic. In those days I mixed my own chemistry. As an adult, I spent a number of years doing real estate photography, portraits, weddings, and various special projects, some of which paid, some didn't. For many years I was in the Fire Service where, as an Inspector I did photographic documentation of fire scenes. That was interesting work, but sometimes the pictures I got were the kind no one really WANTS to look at. No framed 16x20's for display there...
After my 35mm stuff was stolen (2 days before a wedding shoot!) I upgraded to 2-1/4 square with a Mamiya C330. Loved that camera! Too bad about film. I have gone through several fixed zoom lens electronic cameras and don't much care for them. Recently I got an older Cannon EOS system Rebel XT, a DSLR, which came with an 18-55mm zoom. I have added a couple more lenses and am having a lot of fun with that camera! I like the RAW picture format which works well with Photoshop CC
I am an amateur astronomer and do astrophotography from my small observatory. That is presently my main photo activity. I have a CMOS deep space camera that allows me to take long time exposures to get pictures of deep space objects, many of which cannot be seen with the naked eye even in my 10 inch reflector telescope. The camera outputs a "FITS" format which is sorta unique to astrophotography. It is a non-compressed format that contains all the detail the sensor can capture. However, it does require a special plug-in for Photoshop or else a special program to open and process the picture.
So, that's me. Not very exciting, I fear!
Welcome. Post and have fun.
Welcome to the forum, glad you have you with us! There is an astrophography sub-forum here you might enjoy, but there's something of interest pretty much everywhere here. Have fun!
