NYC held a Reservoir Cleanup Day on October 1, with volunteers scouring the woods for garbage. They weren't disappointed. Below is a summary of what they found - left behind by fisherman.

Looks like it'd be almost as much work to count everything as to pick it up!

That was my first thought.
Trashing public land is my favorite pet peeve. I can't cure it but I have found a way to lessen my frustration. If I see anyone casually throw trash on the ground I immediately pick it up, put a smile on my face and get the culprits attention by politely saying, "excuse me, I think you dropped something". I wait two beats which is just enough time for them to say, "oh, thank you" and put their hand out. I toss the garbage in their face or if they happen to be in a car I throw it in their lap and run like hell!
I've had some close calls but the satisfaction is worth the risk.

Disgusting and kudos to you and the guys for cleaning it up. What is WRONG with these people?

Same problem over here, on walks out, I take a plastic bag with me and pick up any discarded cans and bottles!

just think of how much they would have picked up if they didn't take the time to count it all
Embryonically, at least early on, pigs and humans are indistinguishable. Apparently some humans retain that embryonic pig brain.

What is the interval between cleanup days?
Does that count represent one month's trash or several years?
Why is finger being pointed at just “fisherman”? Balloons, diapers and tires not typically used while fishing.
The only thing found that would absolutely link the “fisherman” is the fishing line.
All of the other items could have come from any number of people such as people just out for a walk or visit to the sight, kids out to party at the reservoir, bird watchers or dare I say photographers.

Worse here is the dog walkers who bag up the dog poop and then tie to a tree 'so everybody can see what a good dog walker I am. Walking into it is worse than walking in it!
That is a pet peeve as well. I hate going to what, in my mind, I consider (or pretend) an unspoiled area, devoid of people, only to come out of there toting a backpack full of other people's garbage. Just how hard is it to pick up after oneself? Or take your trash to the dump instead of dumping it in a park, vacant field, or along the river? Am I on my soapbox again...doggone it!?!
Glad I didn't volunteer to be the trash counter that day!
