That's very near me, I had a picture frame business in Whitby for 25 years, until I retired in 2006. I would have come to say hello if
you had let me know. The railway is great isn't it. It's a very lovely route. When my two youngest were about 7 or 8 we went on the
Santa Claus run. The train broke down and we were on the train for about three hours......The Kids loved it...Did you enjoy this
part of England,? I will bet you did...

Hi Graham, I certainly did think that the train was great! I really like anything to do with steam engines--old trains, antique flywheel engines, and antique cars. I restored a 1930 Model A Ford coupe going on 30 years ago that I still have and drive regularly.
I certainly did enjoy your part of England! So much history there! Beautiful countryside! I wish that I would have made contact with you, that would have been great! I have relatives in France that I try to go and visit every couple of years, and the last couple of times have chosen to spend a week in England before going on to France.

Yes I do remember we boarded at Pickering and went to Whitby, then back to Pickering. It was about a 3 hour ride if I remember correctly. I spent most of the time hanging out of an open window between two railcars taking photos!
My Daughter and I flew from Houston, landed in Manchester and went to Huddersfield where we stayed the week. From there one day we took a bus to Pickering and caught the train. At the end of the week we caught a train to London, then took the train from there to Paris. A few days there then went to see kinfolks near Epernay for a week, then went to Corsica for a couple of weeks to see more kin.
