Little Farm In The Valley

All comments and edits welcome. This tiny farm was nestled in the Laurentian mountains in Quebec. Picture-taking on a foggy, rainy day has its challenges, and I didn't try to get rid of the conditions though I'm not opposed to trying. The fall colors are somewhat muted by them, but of course I was drawn to the gold path between the fields, and the mix of natural and human-managed plants.

I thought to enhance the conditions and what you were drawn to......

I love it Frank. But you have to tell me what you did.

I'd be delighted to minniev, if I could remember...shouldn't have flattened it I guess.

I love your photo, minniev! I did some edits: highlighting the mountain colors just a smidge to make them more of a focus of the image. I also cut the sky a bit because it doesn't add anything to the photo and the result, to my eye, puts the viewer more in the picture. Hope you don't mind and that you like what I did.

Thanks Edie. Nice version. And I definitely agree with you on the sky needing a little trim, too. Unless reworked like Frank's version, it is too bland to leave it all there.

Just Ps work mainly....brush work with exposure, levels, and saturation layers..some camera raw work with a very light opacity filter from On1..yellowed paper or something, brushed away mostly except for maybe the sky.....

I like your version. It's soft and inviting rather than "in your face."

Opened in raw and made some color adjustments. Removed the white chimney as the bright white was catching too much attention, and toned down the white on the side of the house. In Perfect Effects 8, Made a filter adjustment to bring out the blue in the sky. In PS the hillside was selected and the colors were enhanced.

For reasons unknown the color enhancement is not showing unless you open it in the download mode.

I was going to comment, then I scrolled to Frank2013's version and he had nailed it.

You mention the foreground vegetation as being one of the main things that attracted you to the scene. While it does have its visual charms, it's in danger of becoming a shot of a field. To counteract that, the other elements in the frame need more prominence. Rather than get rid of the haze and general softness completely I thought it would be better to just cut back on them a bit.

To give more prominence to the hillside and the building I gave it a vertical stretch then cropped to reduce the foreground slightly. I also used split toning to add a bit of colour to the sky (which is probably a rather lazy way of doing it, but I'd say it's better than no colour).

In download it is a wow! Well done, but I thought it a little saturated.
