Just bought a D750 and need your expertise. Just purchased and have no lenses. Want to buy lenses that optimize this specific camera and vice versa. I am interested in the best options for this camera and also the best value options with little fall off in quality. My shooting interests are varied. First landscape/beachscape. Second astro photography (can I get away with the same lens as landscape?) Third I am a wildlife enthusiast and want ability to shoot. birds, alligators etc. Finally I like to dabble in expressive portraits/street photography kind of like Lee Jefferies with lots of depth of emotions.
I know this is varied. Hopefully I can do this with three really high quality lens and if good value even better. As you recommend any scientific or evaluative backup or references would be helpful as well. If there are any lenses that can work well with several of these areas even better. I want to get the max out of the hardware and be limited only by my own lack of vision. You all are the best. been reading for years.
Birds....Nikon 200-500 is a possibility What is your budget? Nikon 500mm f4 AF-S is a good choice, but expensive.
Thank u prolly 3-5k on all thes lens. As I said if I can find kens in thes catagories that are a good value with close to pro or pro performance awesome. But I want to know the best or close to best performance options
For Astro, you need a lens that hoovers in light, like the Sigma 24 mm f/1.4 Art.
Tamron 24-71 DI is a great street shooter
Thank you could the recommended Astro be used in any other scenarios with this camera.
For my D750, have a AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8G ED, used for macro (love closeups of flowers and insects): the AF-S 70-200mm 1:2.8E FL ED, used for indoor sports (grandkids!) and twilight air shows (heavy but fast) and the "kit" lens, the AF-S Nikkor 24-120 mm 1.4G ED for the routine walk around shots. Been real happy with all of them. Also have a Sigma FX 100-400 1:5.6-6.3 DG that I bought to pair with my D7500 for daytime air shows (much lighter set up and gives me defacto angle of view equivalent to 600mm on reach). A a "serious amateur" and getting lots of good ideas and replies from this forum.... John
I just got a nikkor 300mm f4 d to go with my d750. I will be trying some astro photos with it mounted on an old Vixen SXW mount. I'll post something soon, I hope.
At the moment, my favorites are an old AI 50mm f1.4, vintage 1988, a nikkor 105mm f2.8 micro D, and a new 24-120 f4 VR zoom. I haven't done anything with the 300 yet, but I'm liking my primes.
Thank you keep the recommendations coming all helpful
A good lens for astro photography as well as landscapes is the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 or the Tokina 10-20 2.8. Both very good lenses, sharp and great IQ and should compliment your D750 nicely. Another good lens to consider, for wildlife and birding, is the Sigma 150-600 sport edition. Just shy of $2K. Sorry, but I don’t do street shooting or sports, so I can’t recommend anything for that.
Just a couple of decent alternatives to Nikon brand lenses, at a bit less money.

Great camera! I have the 28-300mm on mine most of the time. I also like the Tokina 16-28mm.

For landscape my go to lens has always been the Nikon 16-35 f4, great reviews and great IQ (image quality). For wildlife you cannot do much better than the Nikon 200-500 f5.6 lens. Read the reviews on B&H vs. third party glass. It is hands down in favor of the Nikon. I have used the 200-500 for over a year and a half and I have since sold my Nikon 300 2.8 and 200-400 f4 because of the weight and IQ of the lens.
