Lightroom is easy to use and understand. The editing features are endless. Why go anywhere else.

Nobody would be looking for an alternative to Lightroom if it did not have some significant drawbacks. The first drawback is the perception that Adobe cares more about their profits than about their users.

Any product gets easier to use and understand the longer you use it. Changing to a different product involves getting used to something new. Adobe is counting on that.

That well may be true but there's absolutely NO guarantee Adobe won't raise subscription prices (every other subscription I have has gone up, I expect LRCC to go up also), decrease minimum subscription storage space or increase storage prices....since it seems all programs are migrating to SaaS. Additionally you get upgrades with the subscription but are those upgrades so minor its hardly worth paying for over time? Different strokes for different folks. Me personally, I prefer the stand alone system and that's just me.

From what I've read, heard and the continual 'push' Abode has been giving me to move to the Cloud, I think the entire issue between Lightroom or another program comes down to whether an individual wants to be tied to the cloud or a stand alone program...Most all are great programs and will do whatever their users want them to do or they will migrate somewhere else. If you're used to one program and like it, stay with it. Those are choices an individual makes based on their own specific needs....my One Cents worth

ON1? Read the reviews, read the specs, does it work for your requirements? ON1 looks like it has a lot of great options and....can't beat 'FREE' for 30 days

I subscribe to Lightroom CC and have been moderately satisfied and I do not the available Photoshop. Recently, I purchased ON1 Capture One. The sharpening and masking tools in On1 are fare better than Lightroom CC. However, ON1 has a learning curve and if you take the time On1 is very dynamic and the recently release On1 2018 which is still in beta is even more dynamic than On1 2017.6.

I'm using Nikon Nx-i/Nx-D for RAW processing and Paintshop Pro + Topaz plug ins for further editing. Not perfect but works for me. The much criticized Nikon software lacks elegance but does the job with RAW.

I took a look at Topaz Studio. Several features I need are missing. I'll stick with the separate plug ins.

I am surprised more haven't suggested On1. I have been impressed with that program (although, Lightroom is still my primary PP App.)

ON1? $99 for a full blown, complete system with tutorials and the first upgrade, seems like a no brainer

Does anyone use an alternative to Lightroom? I was thinking about Topaz Studio. Does anyone use Topaz Studio as a standalone? Do you just download your images to PICTURES on your computer's folder, then go from there?
What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

I use my PC's file system for pictures and photos just like I do for other files. Have to admit that I have LR, but have not used it/

Moving away from LR since I'm not one who wants to be tied the Cloud and more subscription fees. I'm now using Capture One Pro (Sony) since I have Sony equipment...its intuitive, many similarities to LR and has lots of free tutorials available as needed. ON1 looks like an excellent system and it was my secondary choice, went with Capture One, meets my requirements, very satisfied. πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

Depends if you are on a PC or Mac. And if you want Digital Account Management and image manipulation or just one. Here is the list off the top of my head:

DAM and IM

Photoshop Elements
On1 Raw
Luminar (though the DAM is being promised in an upgrade coming)
Aperture on Mac (discontinued but still works if you own it even with High Sierra)

IM only

I don’t know Capture One (thought it was PC only but could be wrong)
Affinity which started on Mac but has a PC version now?
Pixelmator
