I think this is a Black-crowned night heron....I'm sure it is a night heron.....but this one may be a juvenile. I've been trying to get a shot of one of these for months....if it's a black-crowned then it is my first. Can anyone confirm identify this hnight heron?

Yes, It is a Black Crowned Night Heron-an adult. Great capture as these guys are very illusive.

Thanks Swamp Gator! This guy was not shy....he never flew....I took as many shots as I wanted and walked away...he just watched me but never flew...I could have made him fly but didn't want to.

I think that this might be a juvenile Black crowned Night-Heron. This bird seems to change in color quite a bit from the time it is born to full maturity. My reference source is National Geographic Society, second edition, "Birds of North America. page 48-49.
Nice photo!
