Thanks to some of the information on this site (yes I do thank you) have decided to look into and buy the mirrorless Sony A6000, to use mostly for travel. I see that it does not come with a charger (only in-camera charging). Sony does make an adapter and battery, but quite expensive compared to off-brands. Are the non-Sony brands as effective and as safe to use, and would you have any recommendations?
I bought my a6000 from Amazon in a kit package. It came with a charger and 3 batteries, 2 lens, carrying case, tripod, etc for $800+. It was a very good buy. I used it in Greece last month and loved it. You will definitively need extra batteries if you shoot a lot in one day. I should clarify, it came with both types of chargers.
I purchased Wasabi Power batteries and charger at a reasonable price from Amazon. They work fine. Yes, the camera is tough on batteries, so I recommend at least having at least two. Charging takes a long time too. Both Amazon and BH Photo have batteries and charger at reasonable prices. Two for about $25.

Had an a6000, got the a6500 for the in body stabilization.
Get at least two Wasabis and the double charger, that works great.

The focus is not as quick on the a6000 with the adapter.
Have fun!
Regarding the Wasabi charger--for the Sony A6000--can it be used overseas (Europe) with just a plug adapter?

Yes. I use mine all the time - no problems.
I charge all my a6000/a6300 batteries in a charger that came with some of my Wasabi batteries. I always carry 2-4 extra batteries. The Wasabis seem to be among the best of the lot. This is one of my complaints about Sony. (There are a couple more, even though I really like the results of shooting Sony.)

Two batteries and a dual charger for under $30. I've had mine about a year - no problems.

I use Wasabi batteries and chargers on 4 different cameras, including my A6000's. They have worked great. At one time I had one battery that didn't seem to hold a charge as long as the other ones. I sent them an email. They sent me a new battery and charger at no cost with no questions asked. I would rate their customer service as excellent.
I own a Sony a6300 and had the same dilemma and posted it within the last week regarding after market batteries and chargers. Most responses said the same as those above, that Wasabi worked well and I also didn't want to spend double or tripple for a Sony product. But then I got a couple of responses that said you spend a lot of money for your camera, why take a chance and not use the battery that was designed to be used with your camera. Look at the specs of the Sony battery vs the Wasabi they are not the same. Another wrote that the battery walls on the after market ones are thinner and run the chance of leaking ? Anyway I went to Best Buy and bought 3 camera items and received a 25% discount which brought the cost down, for me it's peace of mind keeping it all original.
Are you buying new in-box a6000. Mine came with battery, charger, and cable.
