Modularity is a good idea, although clumsy to impliment, I’d imagine.

Modular cameras! In other words, cameras which can be transformed from light and compact to bigger and more complex, and various stages in between. Every aspect of the camera can be altered by attaching a different module. There can be all sorts of special modules available, such as waist level viewers, multiple hot shoes, dual sensors, etc. Instead of buying a new camera to take advantage of the latest technology, you simply purchase a module that incorporates the new technology. The choice of modules will allow you to thoroughly customize your camera to best fit your photographic needs.

I would like to see wi-fi working flawlessly. Much room for improvement here.

My thought being as as I do a lot of video for charity and cash is take the DSLR, mirrorless format and compromise
with the camcorder format. I just thought that the original Hasselblad was just a box like the Red camera of today.
Videographers want great lens and the controls we get from a camcorder. Their is no reason a new design couldn't
do both filming and stills combined. You can buy a small pro camcorder with interchangeable lens like the Sony FS5
but it is not an adaptable as a still camera. I have the Sony a6300 and it does very good video and stills. Has
very good auto focusing. But I want the Canon focusing. The reason this has not happened is because of the
market for pro camcorders and enthusiasts etc. Sony and Panasonic could lead with the everything camera.
Their shouldn't be pro and amateur. They all should be pro. You shouldn't have to spend 5-7K to for a Canon
or Nikon and not get great video and redesign of the basic body. Yes some DSLR formats have good video.
The Sony RX10 III which I have comes close. The video is superb. the 4k even better. The stills are good.
But the control are mirrorless format. This is a bridge camera and shallow depth of field etc...
Oh well it won't happen.

Why?

Your wish was for film camera's and not digital equipment, you can't have one without the other. Digital, cell phones, computers, safety equipment and jet planes all go together, can't have one without the other.

Really?

I can, and do every day.

I can't imagine why you'd even think that because I like shooting film and made a post about it that talking on a cell phone or having a computer is now somehow off limits.

Makes no sense.

Cameras are getting better in most ways. Focusing is fast and accurate, resolution is high, low light capabilities are good, etc.
How can cameras be improved in the future? Can we find some new functions for cameras or is future development only about lowering the price?

What do you think or wish for?

When you are asked to dream big, you really must dream “BIG” like Traido did. That is what drives man kind to invent the impossible. Just think in the 60’s and 70’s explaining the cameras and computers we have now. I remember a Star Track movie where they go back in time inorder to save the Whales, Scottie pulls out a small card (like a compact flash card) puts it in the computer and then tries to talk to it. When that movie came out we didn’t have the compact card or voice commands. We were up to the IBM 256 at 33mhz and no internet. Now there are 256 GB micro cards and we talk to the computers or better yet our cell phones daily. So we have to dream high to stir the imagination of the hot running developers.

A camera the size of a matchbox would require a completely new interface, my hands are too big to operate it!

This is a fun thread. I’m going the opposite direction. I want a flip phone and Nikon D5. LOL

Well, let's go all the way then.

Let's see... "I think I want that photo"... and bingo, I have that photo!!! Thought control will be reality sometime in the future.

Doesn't anyone else have trouble seeing their screen in bright sunlight??? I know that's what the EVF is for, but wouldn't it be nice to see the screen in all conditions?

I propose a monocle view finder that would be worn by the photographer and connected by Wi-Fi to the small, lightweight fully functional remote camera as proposed above. The monocle would allow the user to view the subject with one eye while seeing the camera image with the other. It sounds like it might make you sick, and there would no doubt be some physiological adjustments to be made but I believe it could be done with many benefits.

Sadly, they will never be able to put "artistic vision" into the user. You either have it, or you don't. With it, any camera can produce a memorable piece of art.

As an option, the Canon T7i has an interface and menus for novices.
