Your second image is absolutely beautiful. We have loads of butterflies here right now, but I can't seem to get a decent image. Great at shooting BIF, but can't shoot a still butterfly. What the heck? That's a rhetorical question.

The sharpness of these images is amazing. I wish that I could do that.

I owe a lot of my success to my equipment. I use a Sony A57 (16MP) camera with a Sony 70-300 APO G lens. My camera to subject distance is usually between 4 and 6 feet. ISO is normally 800 and f stop of 10-13. I never use a tripod. On cloudy days I like flash with ISO of 200-400. The zoom lens provides amazing sharpness and wonderful bokay. It is the finest I have ever used and I have been at this hobby for over 60 years and have had many fine lenses.
