My brother is interested in setting up a camera to find out what critters are in the area at night.
I know there are some cameras that are motion activated but I know nothing about any that can take a photo after dark.
These photos would simply be for id purposes. He is not looking to get "winning" shots that would sell, although something decent would be nice.
Does anyone have any experience and suggestions to pass along?
Not sure what price range he wants to go to but he mentioned seeing something advertised for $50.00.
Thanks for any help/advice,etc.

Hunters use them all the time. Trail Camera's. Any sporting goods (hunting equipment) store will have a variety of brands. Motion Detect and light low light areas. Various price ranges and certain NOT high quality image. The hunters use them to detect trail traffic for body count for bird and mammals in hunting areas. $50 and as high as you want to pay above that.

Have you tried any particular one?
I'm trying to weed out any that may be inferior or less inferior than another one------if that makes sense.

Do you have any personal experience with one, or know of someone who has one he/she likes?
I'm trying to find out if some are duds and a waste of money at any price.
Are the pricier ones any better than the $50.00 ones?

Cuddieback is one of the better ones.

Right. There's a huge assortment with a range of prices. Read the details - not just the prices.

Thank you. I will mention this one to Ken (my brother) and see what he thinks.
He thinks he's going to get out cheap but I don't think that's gonna happen.
$59.99 is about as cheap as they come.

Thank you for responding Jerry. I have visited numerous sites, including Walmart.com, Gander Mountain, Cabala's, etc. and so far Amazon has the best selection and prices.
I read reviews and hope they are not "fixed".

Thank you Dave. Yes, Amazon does seem to have the best/largest selection with various prices to choose from.

There is a motion/lightning detection sensor designed specifically for camera that you can buy for cheap.

I use Amazon for a lot of things. Some are cut and dry, but it is nice to be able to depend on the reviews if it is not. I've found FakeSpot helpful. It only works for Amazon and Yelp, but the results might help you separate "ratings" from "promotions."

Try reviews off Amazon, too. If there are lots of Amazon reviews, that works in your favor.

Thank you for the response and sites, but he has already made a purchase. I wanted him to wait but he wanted to get one and get it set up right away.
By the way, it was NOT cheap.
I will check out those sites anyway because I might be interested in this for future use.
Thanks again.

Thank you for this download site. I seldom buy anything online, but if I did I would consider this.
Most of the reviews I read about these cameras had only a one star rating. Of course, the 5 star rating was a $500.00 camera.
