I recently purchased several 16X24 aluminum prints from a well known company and was pleased with the way
they looked. But on all the photos the hanging system on the back of the photo has failed where the fiber board(?)
rectangular hanging system has detached from the aluminum and the photo falls to the ground. The company has
stood behind them and reshipped, but I am wondering can I repair them by somehow adhering the wood fiber mounting frame to the aluminum
with some type of adhesive. Any ideas?
Gorilla Glue, Nun better!

Loc: St. Louis burbs, but originally Chicago burbs
I hope you aren't talking about the same company I've just had trouble with using a different mounting system. Took 3 copies to get a good shipment of my first metal print. Was the company from CA?

I never liked adhesive mountings. A screw into a wooden frame is fail-proof. With a metal frame, screws would also be my first choice.

Just to speculate, had you had a big change in temperature or humidity? Aluminum expands and contracts a little with temperature, wood moves with temperature a little but more with humidity. If they expand or contract at different rates there could be sheer that the glue has to overcome. A bigger surface for the area of attachment could possibly help, or maybe reinforcement of aluminum tape on the top of the mount would give a broad surface area that would move at the same rate as the print.
...you say "fiber board?"...what exactly is the material? Whatever it is I'm betting any good spray laminate adhesive would be fine...3M 90 is *very* good, you coat both surfaces (you'd have to mask the metal, which would act as a jig for attaching your piece as a bonus) then, when tacky, put the pieces together with some hand pressure. I've applied kitchen laminate with the stuff and never a call back...strong bond.
Thanks,I agree with you about the screws, but there is not enough depth for screws on the photo -it is printed on thin aluminum with no frame.

...just the proper adhesive will be fine. I do stuff like this for a living...that said, *you* are the one doing the work. When I make frames, BTW, only glue holds them together...
3M VHB tape. It’s a sign industry standard. VHB stands for very high bond.
