Buying used, done right reaps rewards. I haven't bought a new car since 1984. I haven't been disappointed overall as I've had just about the same out of pocket costs (in actual dollars) as everyone I know who bought new, but I win on depreciation! Buying used photo gear (and audio gear too) makes even better economic sense, Many cameras (unless used by an actual pro) have very low "miles". A lot of good gear was bought by "newbies" who want "the best", and find out that they are not REALLY into it, and said gear sits unused. I'm a vintage camera collector and I have more than a few "prosumer" film cameras that have been only slightly used, yet my Kodak Brownies (also a fetish, LoL 😂) all show more use! Many folks will "aim high", come back down, and sell their gear.

I agree with you. Buying quality used products is just an economically smart thing to do. Every car I've purchased in the past 25 years, except for 2, have been low mileage previous owned vehicles. My current car I bought new because there were no use Chevy Cruze Premier Hatchbacks available (especially with the options I wanted) since 2017 is the first model year for this car. Several years ago we were in the market for a Chevy Lumina van but couldn't find the right one in a used unit so we bit the bullet and bought new. I traded in my old Chevy station wagon, which was still in really good shape, and got a great deal on the Lumina van, and it was the same color as the wagon which is the color the wife wanted.
I've purchased both new and used camera gear. There are a few cameras I really wish I had waited until a good used unit was available but I wanted what I wanted and didn't want to wait. I'll be waiting for a good used D850 to become available before I buy one. I really like the camera, but I can wait.

Because for the most part, they have nothing better to do.

Ever wonder how many topics are brought up just for the purpose of starting a discussion or even a controversial or heated discussion?

There certainly a couple of posters who do just that (sometimes several times a day); once I determine someone is in that group, I "ignore" them. Makes no sense to me to even allow their posts into my topics screen.

And there's that satisfaction of getting a "Cadillac" at "Kia" price! Another good option is to buy new but an "old" model. They always keep a line around for a while after it's "succeeding" model comes out. (I always buy "last year's" phone, this year for example.) Today's $800 darling is next year's $300 meh...! In a minute there will be a "D850 XL Super" and then the D850 will be had for at least a 25% discount!

If that was directed at me I still stand by it , the question was what camera would you buy , and some one comes up with the
Question, tell us what your going to use it for , that was not the question , so what if he says to take pictures of every day natural
Events that occurs every day and natural surroundings and happenings during any common day , rain or shine or snow . I would
Say any camera you can get your hands on of the kind that appeals to to you ,be it a shirt pocket model or a S.L.R. FULL FRAME
or a DX crop , every camera on the shelves of the camera store is good at taking pictures , other wise it would not be there .
