This morning 10/09/2017 I saw the Sony 50mm lens, model sel5018 F/1.8 on Amazon for $209.30, regular price is $298.00. It might be a mistake or whatever. I went over to my local Best Buy, and they matched the price for me. That is a savings of almost $100.00. By the way this lens comes with Optical Image Stabilization so it is great on my A6000. I tested the lens out and it is really very sharp. I am writing this for anyone that has considered this lens but did not want to spend $300.00 on it. I am very happy with the lens and the price.
You can never go wrong buying a 50mm prime lens, for a full frame camera or crop sensor. I own a 50mm f1.8 that I pair with a Nikon DX camera. I love it.
The SEL5018 is a great lens even at full price, provided the focal length is right for you. I found it a bit too long for my intended use - indoors family / grandkid shots, but beautiful when I could get enough distance. I sold mine as used and got what you paid for it new. Good for you.
Thank you repleo..........Mike
The point that I was bringing out is that I thought Sony controlled the selling price, it is not a gray market lens, it has a U.S.A. guarantee. How come Amazon can sell it $100.00 below the regular price......Mike

Thanks. Price-matching is a great idea. I use the 16-50mm on my A6000, and I'll stick with that.

That's an excellent price for an excellent Sony prime lens that gets very good reviews. I bought one from B&H, brand new, a few months ago for $248. I do a lot of low light photography and the 50/1.8 and the 35/1.8 both perform beautifully.

I bought one when I got my a6300. Figured to use it inside museums and churches in Mexico where the light is dark and, of course, flash is prohibited as it should be. But then I found I never used it. My SEL18200 stayed on the camera. The ISO 6400 on the a6300 is so near noiseless that I could just shoot the zoom. The 50mm stayed packed for a long time until I finally sold it without ever shooting real photos.
Actually, I'm amazed at how good the sensor is at 12,800.
But it is a great lens.
