Hi Macsta and welcome to the Ugly Hog. We could better answer your question if you provided a price range and what you want to shoot with your camera. In any case, we are glad to have you join us.

Hello, although I don't own the fujifilm HS30EXR, my father in law does and I've had the chance to play with it.

What I like:
Ergonomic - it feels right to hold. The buttons are in the right place, and it is well balanced (not front heavy)

Great zoom - 30x is good, and I've not noticed any undue distortion or aberrations either at the wide angle or telephone extremes

Fast focus - it does focus quickly, and accurately, too

Dislikes:
Colours - the colour is somewhat muted in a dull, rather than artistic way. You could correct his in post, so not a great problem.

Stabilisation - image stabilisation is poor. A lot of the photos I've seen are smeared from movement (my father in law has a steady hand, so I can't blame him 100%!)

Overall, I am not particularly enthusiastic about the camera. I's not because I'm a DSLR snob; it just that the quality of the images straight out of the camera are insipid. On top of that, a lot of the features don't seem to work well, or at least what they promise to do is imperceptible.

It depends on what you feel is lacking in the HS10. If it's more zoom you want, get the Nikon p510. If its better image quality, get a compact system camera, DSLR, or large sensor compact. I don't think the HS30 gives you enough of either to warrant its purchase

Does anyone actually read the scores and see how one camera beat another the areas that the CoolPix beat the Fuji are

Has a little more zoom
Popularity which means nothing when it comes to quality of camera
Better LCD screen
Image Stabilization lens compared to sensor shift

Not as one sided a victory as the score makes it seem if you look at the advantages of the Fuji over the Nikon the list is 4 times longer in favor of the Fuji.

I looked at both the Fuji HS30 and the Nikon P510 before purchasing my Canon SX40. Results between Canon and Nikon were very similar with the Nikon have a little longer zoom, but the articulating screen on the Canon was more important than the longer zoom.

I was torn between the canon and the nikon but although the canon does have an articulating screen the nikon does have a 3in slightly larger tiltable LCD screen with a high 921k dot resolution and Nikon Clear Color Display technology and 42x zoom...which won it for me also being able to shoot from the hip or above your head...was not sure at first if i bought the right camera but the more i use it the more i love it

A bit defensive are we? How does someone encouraging you to pursue enjoyment equate to "SHUT UP?"

Well i'm sorry if it kind of offends you but that's exactly what your post did to me...as i did not see any kind of constructive comment for the o.p. just a short comment to me...i might have seen it in a different way if it was my thread and was saying how much i love my cam...but it's not and did not see any point in posting...again sorry if you were saying it in a nice way but i honestly seen it as a dig.
