Back to printing black and white; a couple from the latest roll.

I have been printing color for about 6 months now but got the urge to print some black and white again so I finished my current roll and had at it!

The film is Eastman Double-X developed with homebrew D-96 at stock strength. I did notice that I developed the negs a bit too long but it wasn't a total disaster, just a bit more contrasty than I like.

I printed on Ilford MGIV paper. Both are about 8x10 in size and then scanned on a flat bed.

One picture is me clowning at WalMart in a tiger head and the other is my wife giving me a smile for the camera while stopped at a light.

Because it looks interesting to me. It takes the emphasis off of colors and puts it on other things. Also, the shooting and printing processes are different so that factors in too. It's not better or worse, just another flavor to sample.

B&W is like old radio compared to television. Your imagination fills in the blanks. To my mind it's richer than color in many ways. But then I'm not a young man!

I've been wanting to put one of those masks on at Walmart but my hubby said, "No way!". I showed your photo to him and maybe he'll take one of me now! Thanks!

Nice work. For those of who cut their photographic teeth with B&W film. we still believe that there aretimes when color can be a distraction from the starkness of an image. Not timing time in the tank properly ain't even close to the worst kind of mistake one can make in the darkroom. I know cause I made them all. Go for it, next roll will be perfect. It ain't the mistakes that count-It's what you do next that counts. (an old chinese saying (that I just made up) )
