Justice Department figures. And bear in mind that many, many instances where a firearm is shown but not fired has prevented a crime. I'm a statistic there because I have done it twice!! Once with a totally unloaded firearm that I didn't even have a magazine for and the second time at my home in the wee hours of the morning...neither of which I reported. Check the NRA because they keep sources and figures, which I don't. The American Rifleman magazine prints instances each month of where firearms were used to save lives.

What most people don't seem to realize is he killed only 59 people out of 22 thousand, wounder another 500 half of whom have already left the hospital. He was an idiot, the only smart coocoo's were the 9/11 hijackers. This guy owned 2 airplanes, he could have filled one of them with gas and rammed a jumbo jet on take off or just pushed into a power dive and crashed into the concert, both those attacks would have killed and maimed many more people. Its a sad state of affairs nowadays but its incredibly easy to murder large groups of people crushed together in a small area. That french terrorist used a semi truck, The ar15 gets a lot of press and of course I wouldn't want to shot with one (or a .22 short for that matter) but they really aren't very good weapons for killing people. A lot of military people call them "poodle shooters" it was basically made in the 60's for the 19 year old non riflemen baby boomers. They're cheap, fun to shoot because of the low recoil and ammo's cheap too. Now back to photo stuff, does anybody else hate the way a mirrorless camera locks the view finder when they take a picture?

you are wrong , a derange bum will get his weapons on the black market , this guy passed the back ground check . the hotel lobby is not that busy like a airport .there are millions of assault rifles out there , it is too late to fix the problem .metal detectors and luggage check now are one defense .[ until the plastic gun gets perfected , made home on a 3d printer ]

I'm always amazed how some people have no problems exposing their lack of critical thinking or ignorance of life, or both as in this case.

I suspect you and your friend have never been at an airport or a hotel, or probably neither.

What is the BIG difference between a hotel and the secure area of an airport, you know, the area after you have gone through security?

Ha. There you go, I knew an imbecile like you would raise his ugly head in the beginning of this thread. Have you always been stupid or did you work at getting that way?

I’m not a very active member but I’ve referred several others to the group because I thought this was an interesting place to exchange information and learn about photography. That does not appear to be the case. It appears to be another social media venting forum for persons with anger issues and personality disorders. I am dropping off and I won’t be referring any more friends. Good luck and good bye all.

Then why don't you go to one of the Photography sections and STAY there? No one is forcing you to read any of this. Are you really that much of a whiny victim?

I suspect you will not read this, but here goes anyway.

This section is NOT about photography. It says so explicitly in the name.

The question posed in the OP is just plain stupid and ignorant and I treated it as such. I was actually amazed that anyone with enough intelligence to log into a forum using a computer or other device would even think of asking it. This is the type insipid question I would expect from a journalist or someone from Uranus. And now I have to add "a person on an on-line forum."

If you were not such an incredible imbecile and such an immature fool you would know that the only "stupid" question is the one NOT asked. Crawl back under your rock lizard.

A high-end hotel to you would be a Holiday Inn without the carpet. YOU have not worked in any high-end hotels. Why do you say that? You know it is not the truth. Here is a news flash for you; many high-end hotels are already screening and searching guest and their luggage. You would not know about this because they ARE high end hotels. Not any you would be familiar with. Back to the Motel 6 frankie boy, that is your speed. LOL

Maybe not for the large mass shootings but when you consider that most "mass shootings" are in the smaller numbers and are being done by gang members and hoodlums consider that the top eight gangs in the United States are Latino...and where do they come from?

Uh....they do already?

Have you ever tried to buy a gun and went through the process?

Oh Lord, where to begin? Actually since FlingingTigger obviously has a reading comprehension problem, it's probably not worth it, but for others, here goes.

There ARE such things as stupid questions and the premise of this thread is the poster child for such. Let's examine it.

The title says "Are Metal Detectors Next For High End Hotels Nationally?"

The Mandalay Bay is NOT a high end hotel, so why is the OP purposefully ignoring the hotel from which the mass shooting occurred?

Beyond the immediate non-sequitur of the title, the OP obviously has never been to hotels, especially in Las Vegas where access is available from everywhere.

I would like to know how the hotel is able to go through my luggage when I take it with me to my room. Also, if only high end hotels, the ones who insist on taking the luggage to your room, are the ones who go through your luggage and have metal detectors, how is that going to stop anything in the future? This would be like checking the people in first class and letting people in coach come in unhindered.

Also, I travel by car to shooting competitions around the continent. You can be certain that I do not leave my multi kilobuck match rifle, which is worth more than your car, in my SUV. It comes in with me, along with the backup rifle. I also bring in my spotting scope and tripod and that's just during the trip, which can take up to three days. At my destination, I bring in EVERYTHING, including ammo. And I don't stay at your preferred brand, Motel 6.

I would think that more attention would be directed towards high-rise hotels near venues such as the one in Vegas. There are still many unanswered questions about this evil deed and if the authorities were smart they would study this closely and be tight-lipped about what they are doing.

Most of them are brain washed victims who respond to a phone call that triggers hem to do the task they have been conditioned to do. You can always tell when one of these occurs because the shooter is always killed before he chance to be interrogated; there is evidence of other shooters and the whole thing is covered up by the government. Just follow the scenario develop to a tee with the Vegas shooting. David Icke has several books out that describe this government stunt and shows the multiple cases where it's played like a fine fiddle and the public falls for it over and over again.

OMG what a great plot for a movie. The murder could be a war hero, maybe even a MOH recipient. He could have been captured by the enemy and, "conditioned", to murder the President or other high ranking political figures. It is a shame that Laurence Harvey is dead as he would be the ideal murderer character. Frank Sinatra would be the ideal hero too. Darn it! They are both dead. But wait!!! Maybe if Denzel Washington played the hero character. Hmmm. It just might work.

Yes, I've bought several guns, both handguns and long guns. The background check consisted of one phone call to see if I was on the list of people who couldn't buy guns.
It's the list that is incomplete. Anyone who has a mental illness needs to be on that list and currently they only make the list if committed by court order.
Remember according to the GOP gun control doesn't work, except in Italy, Sweden, Denmark, France, Australia, Ireland, and so on and so on and so on.

After careful consideration, I have concluded that you are a moron. This might account for your undying loyalty to the Moron In Chief, Trumplethinskin.
