Need to purchase a new camera and need help. Have narrowed to the canon SX60 or Nikon b700. Have read so many reviews now confused. The Canon came out in 2014 and the Nikon 2016. That alone makes me think the Nikon is the correct one. Need the super long zoom for animals. I use only auto and need good image stabilization. The point and shoot is the only way I can go found out missed to many shots changing lens. Any help would be appreciated. As you can tell just like to shoot pictures for my own enjoyment.
I don't quite understand your statement about missing to many shots because of changing lenses. A good zoom lens on a decent small DSLR will out perform the two point and shoot cameras hands down. Something like a Nikon D3300 or a Canon T5i will do a much better job than the point and shoot cameras, for one reason, the image sensors are much larger.
The B700 may have 20 mpx but it is a very small image sensor and that many pixels crammed onto a sensor that small is not necessarily a good thing. The Canon may have only 16 mpx but the sensor is of similar size to the Nikon so the individual pixels are larger.
The Canon has more zoom than the Nikon, is wider at the wide end, shoots faster, has better light sensitivity and can shoot high speed video and has a jack for an external microphone and supports external flash units, so the Canon has a few distinct advantages over the Nikon. The Nikon is newer, smaller, lighter, shoots HD video at 30fps vs the Canons 1080 at 60fps (which isn't bad), has a slightly wider max aperture (3.3 vs 3.4) and has twice the max shutter speed (1/4000 vs 1/2000). The two biggest advantages the Nikon has over the Canon is, it's newer and it's cheaper.
I own many cameras; brands such as Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Sony so I'm not brand oriented. I do not own a B700 but I do own a SX60HS.
It is a nice DSLR like point and shoot, as is the B700. Feature wise the Canon is better than the Nikon but if you want HD video and Bluetooth connectivity, the Nikon is the better pick. The Canon does have better optical zoom than the Nikon, better light sensitivity and EA bracketing, a definite advantage in tricky light situations. If you do not plan on using any of the features the Canon offers over the Nikon then the Nikon is definitely the better choice. If you do use settings other than full auto, the Canon would be my choice.
thanks and sorry for the confusion on the changing lens. It was my way of saying why I need a point and shoot. Do not have the dexterity to quickly change lens anymore and hard to carry the extra lens around.
But what sort of max zoom do you need? Do have a look at micro 4/3 (Panasonic or Olympus). These are 2x crop, with a decent size sensor, so a fairly inexpensive zoom (say 45-200) is equivalent to a 90-400, and decent IQ will allow you to crop successfully.

The Canon SX60 is one of the best Bridge Cameras on the Market today. The Sony RX10iii is one that ranks better. And perhaps the Panasonic fz1000.
You mention needing the camera for "super long zoom animal" shots. Have you taken a look at the P900?
I have recently read that the SX60 has a zoom equivalent to 1440mm. How much more than that do you need?
Saying I would be happy with both helps but you seem to be the person to ask more. Which one is the best for running or flying wildlife. Maybe even bears feeding along. I probably will not use it as a video just still photos. What I have trouble with now is I need longer than 12x and when I go into digital zoom when I halfway press the button it goes blurry then refocus the scene has changed. Probably the stabilization does not work on the digital zoom and that is also why I want the longer optical zoom. Try taking a pictures from a car of a snake moving across the road (Okefenokee Swamp), Elk running toward you on a road off the Blue Ridge Parkway or the big buck coming and you need to focus fast.
Only have a 12X now is why I am looking at these. Yes I agree this should be enough zoom.
I thought I was answering individual post but new to this so not sure how. Someone mentioned the b900 and some other great cameras problem over what I feel like I can spend. Would like to keep it below 500. The extra zoom on the b900 is enticing but not sure I really need that much zoom.

The Nikon P900 has a focal range to 2000mm, and the Canon SX60 has a focal range to 1365mm. The SX60 shoots RAW, the P900 does not shoot RAW.
