Me personally... I would rather spend more and get what I want. A lot of "kit stuff" is lower end to get you to buy it. If the stuff is what you want, get the kit, otherwise shop for what you want and get that instead. If you're buying solely for the purpose of acquisition, then "stuff" is what you'll get... and as stated, make sure that it's not foreign/grey market stuff. If the ad add doesn't state it, call them and ask...
If it’s an authorized Canon dealer selling a USA camera and it comes with freebies for no extra cash, keep what you want like a camera bag, name brand SD card, extra battery and/or charger and donate or give away the cleaning kit or crap tripod.
the kits with the kitchen thrown in are dubious, however a camera/lens kit can be a good thing. pick a good body then see if you can negotiate a few "good" lenses at a discount price.
