Pop over to Amazon.com, type in Tamron 18-400, then and scroll to the bottom to read about those who have purchased it.
Be sure to read the reviews from the Canon users and the Nikon users, and any other camera maker who takes on that lens.
I just traded in my Tamron 16-300 for it, but haven't got it yet. One user cited the 16-300 as being weak, and was absolutely amazed with the 18-400.
That is encouraging, assuming these were discerning users. Please do get back to us once you have some experience of your own. At one time I got the 18-270 to use with my Canon Rebel; the Rebel died less than a year later, but I had already retired the 18-270 and had gone back to my previous two lens solution - 18-55mm kit lens and the old 75-300mm dating back to when I got my first EF system in 1995. I found that I usually knew which focal length range I'd need before I mounted the lens, so I wasn't excited about dealing with the compromises built into the 18-270.
