That's a nice one, those are tough to get, good timing on the ball. Do have some with smoke too? or is that the floor?

Thanks, yeah ... that's just the floor. Actually - it's a harsh reflection on the floor that I tried to reduce with some cloning. I guess I need to work on that some :-)
... it does look a bit smokey. The finished product will have her name and graduation year added ... and will be made into a banner for the gym.

No one plays in such dramatic lighting, unless like some of us playing outside and keep playing after the sun sets.

Yes ... this is posed ... for senior pictures. Hence the 2 rovelights and 2 speedlights. Coach was behind me, to the right, pitching the ball to the senior to "dig".

timspix an enchanting narrative... lovely color harmonies between the honey hue of the wood and the emerald green uniform stripe...
The talent's expression is indeed charismatic on this capture...

Noticed you indicated "CC appreciated..." Which I'm assuming you're interested in moving to the next level?
If so having conflicting shadows on the wooden deck is a distraction... I oft work as a lighting assistant and frequently have to "kill" spill with flags and cutters... it's a bear especially without modeling lights... but it can be done... In an ideal scenario there would be shadow only from your key... Trust this makes sense...

Note: while barn doors may seem like an EZ fix, they simply can't offer the granularity of flags placed just out of frame...
The art of "shaping" light is as complex as it is vast... I oft study the works of the masters who had the ability to perfect shadow to the nines...
Do yourself a favor and research "Chiaroscuro" and how Italian Master took the interplay of shadow/light to amazing heights...

Also review high end publications such as VOGUE especially the advertisements (which have the largest budgets) to get your head around why key shadows are the rule not the exception... I have found reverse engineering the work of top commercial shooters to be invaluable...

Hope this helps or is at least food for thought...
I wish you well on your journey timspix

Again enchanting narrative... thank you for sharing...

How does the senior feel about the shot? I like the pose, but the ball is a little low on her arms and more on her wrists and base of hands... just an observation of technique. For this shot though, the ball is really balanced and distinct from the torso.

She seemed to like it ... but full disclosure ... she's only seen it on a phone screen ...

I appreciate the kind words and the CC ... I'm a bit at a loss as to see how flagging could deal with the floor shadows ... since the light is above the player and behind her, her legs seem that they would always cast a shadow ... it does seem that adding more light from the front (snoot?) might fill them in.

I really like the pose and subsequent capture! The nit picky things that I find a distraction is 1) her eye on the right side is too dark - I would like to see both eyes and 2) the wood floor is nice and shiny except over on that right side where it is dull and distracting.

I agree with you. The dark eye and the floor are both my fault - but for different reasons. I should have bumped up the power in the softbox on camera right ... we moved it back to get it out of harm's way ... not much to do now. The dull floor I'll work on. There was a hell-of-a bright reflection there ... and I need to find one of the other images to use to clone better wood grain over the reflection... I did a bad job of trying to tone down the reflection ...
