Had mine done about eight years age; 20/25 & 20/30. The doctor didn't mention any other choices except multifocal, which would have cost $2500+.

I had cataract surgery. Went for distance, no glasses except for close up. Only problem I had is that I am near sighted. Which made me except able to detach retina. I have laser surgery twice. Second time in the hospital where they drain the liquid in my eye to repair the retina. Recovery was about a month. Other wise I still believed it was a great choice. No glasses!!!

During cataract surgery, incisions from RK surgery twenty years previously broke open, and had to be fixed. Two days after surgery, I experienced a total retina detachment in the eye. That was fixed as well with surgery, and directions to stare at the floor for three months. The cataract lens was offset, and now cannot be properly reset because the eye is fragile, and further surgery is too risky.
A previous diagnoses of Retinitis pigmentosa and glaucoma further complicate the situation. But, the situation could be MUCH worse. I can still see, do limited daytime driving, and do what is necessary to take pictures.
Life is very good.
An aside, the Dollar store readers are a waste of a dollar--they fall apart and become useless in short time.

I had my left eye done on the 20th, I was the last of 17 surgeries that day. My opinions took a little over 15 minutes as I opted for a more accurate install! I am not only a photographer but a left and right competition shooter so eyesight is extremely important to me! Not that it isn't for everyone else, but I had a "special" need! My Doc, who is Hunter (I am not) understood my request. Anyway, I do know yesterday, my eyes and mind did not agree on what I was seeing. But the Doc discovered pressure build up in the late end area, scaring the hell out of me, he took a scalpel, and released the pressure! Anyway, I see a whole lot better today!

I had both eyes done about 3 months ago. I chose to be far sited. It worked fine. I got reading glasses. The bottom half of my glasses are for close up and the top half is clear glass on transition lenses. This helps to see my target through the top half and to be able to see my camera and settings through the bottom half. Great!📷

The VA gave me bifocals, and they serve the same purpose.

I got mine through the VA also. I find it nice to not have to wear glasses if not shooting or reading.

I have surgery scheduled for Monday. There's a new lens that will focus both near and far. Results have been very good, basically removing the need for any glasses at all. This lens is not covered by Medicare and will cost me about $2700 out of pocket but I think it will be worth it . . .just a thought.

Agree, considering how many pairs of glasses you will buy, break and lose compared to live span of implant lens, I'd say it's a good deal!

I had cataract surgery done a year ago using a new type of lens call Restor which allows both far and near sight. It's a bit more expensive but well worth it.

Does anyone know if it’s possible, after cataract surgery (like 10 years after), to have the surgery repeated to implant multi focal length lenses? Thank you.

My DR told me it's a once in a life time operation so needs to be done right the first time! Just had both eyes done a week apart, 20-20 vision no glasses but regular lens not bifocal or progressive! Sorry that's what I was told.

I've been told I need cataract surgery. My doc asked if I wanted to improve distance or near vision. I told him I was a photographer so my initial response was distance vision. But then I thought about all the menus and buttons on the camera that would near close-up vision. My goal would be to not have use glasses at all when out shooting. How did other UHH handle this quagmire?

I had the same issue when I had laser surgery, and went with mono-vision (which is a correction for distance in one eye, close in the other). Now I will need cataract surgery, and hope to do the same again.

I have monovision. Right eye is far sighted and left eye is near sighted, So after the surgery both eyes were still monovision. It works out great as you can still see near with one eye and far with the other eye. The brain selects whichever eye is required to be dominant for what you are looking at. The only adjustment I had to make on my cameras was those little wheels next to the EVF that selects the best diopter for best focus. My photos have improved in focus since I re-adjusted the diopters. From now on I'm going to check those diopters every 6 months to make sure they show the best focus possible.
