Irfanview is excellent and free. Get the picture on the screen (by pressing O and finding it) and then press Ctrl-R to resize it. You can do one or one hundred at a time. Easy peasy. If you get Irfanview, get the plug-ins, too.

A very useful and intuitive editor is "PhotoFiltre" There is a free version to download.
With that app - load (open) the file to reduce, go to "image" in the menu, click on "image size" in the drop down menu and simply reduce the long size to, say, 1000, and the other side will reduce automatically. Click file, save, and add em to the file name. Make sure you save in the correct folder and click save again. That's it!

This is what I mentioned in my PM.

I've had good luck with Irfanview. It's a free download. For computer viewing, there are several size options. I downsize to 1080 on the longest side and save to PNG which, as I understand it, is lossless. After resizing I hit the image with unsharpened mask. Works well for me.

I use PS, image size and reduce the image size to about "8" out of 12. Usually works just fine.

Depends on you Operating system. if you have windows, there are tools that will let you edit to include crop and resize such as Photo Gallery. Don't know what camera you have, but many come with a CD or an ability to download from the internet, camera specific software.

Probably not, Chris. However, Irfanview is one of the easiest and free "editors" available.

On a Mac, use Preview. Open photo in Preview, then click on Tools, then Adjust Size.

For my raw files from my D810, after editing in PS CC I go to file-scripts-image processor and have the dialog box set to 1200X1600 and saved as a jpeg/sRGB in a jpeg file in my windows picture folder.....easy-peasy.....

Another vote for IrfanView. It's free, it's easy, it's fast. It's a one-click operation. Been using it for years.

Simple and easy, Yes! Without additional software, No, but there is a free and easy resizing program you can download at fotosizer.com. It gives you choices for the size final size, and it will do individual photos or a batch.

On every Mac Preview is preloaded. As was stated earlier, under tools adjust size does the trick. I'm in a club using Wordpress to host our club uploads. The limit is about 800 pixels on the longest dimension. For our purposes of viewing and critiquing it works fine. We know these images can be downloaded but are of such poor quality for printing that no one worries about theft of their great shots. But for sharing this is a great method.

Irfanview is great but OP states he/she is not very familiar with the software, so this might help. (If not, sorry for my misunderstanding)

When saving as jpeg, you almost always have an 'Options' button, which brings up a menu allowing you to select the amount of compression. Usually, larger numbers = larger file sizes and better quality. Select the number that best fits your intention, smaller numbers for web posts, larger for printing. No additional software required.

Many people use Picasa. It is no longer being updated, but it still works well and has relatively simple controls. To reduce the file size, use "export". Also, pp (post processing) software comes with every digital camera I have. If you didn't get a CD, go to their website. You may be able to download their pp software.
