I've used that flash on the D90 and several others up through the D750. Nikon flash on Nikon camera - no problem.

Thank you. A straightforward answer. Not like some pontificating fool who has to feed his pathic ego.

Sometimes you just want a quick answer, not a long boring read.

Yes. Not some egotistical self-serving fool who feels the need to feed his ego.

Maybe try Googling "Nikon Flash Compatibility chart" and see if you can access it that way.

I started pontificating, but I lost my train of thought after the third paragraph, so I went with a short answer.

I have a Nikon D610 I also have a Nikon SB600 flash that I used on my D90. I have been receiving conflicting information about using this flash on the D610. Most say it will not work. Others say it will harm the camera. What's a girl to do???
Thank you

Go to Nikonusa.com, find the phone number for tech support and CALL THEM. That is what a SMART girl would do .

No Nikon brand flash will damage ANY Nikon body simply by mounting and shooting it, that's just pure rubbish!

Sorry, but that may not be true. When I got my D5300 a couple years ago, my old Nikon SB-10 flash was not listed in the manual's compatibility charts. So I contacted Nikon, who advised me not to use that flash with the D5300: its current or voltage may not be compatible with the newer DSLRs, and may damage them.

See pages 148 and 293-296 in your user’s manual.

A quick glance at the chart will also tell which feature is or is not available with any of the compatible units. That may require the ability to think for oneself, though, which doesn't appear to be applicable to this thread.

Users manual? What's that?

A Thick Book Manual telling you on the Detailed Features of Your Flash or Camera & what it Does & How to Work Your Flash or Camera, Etc, Etc.

Back in the Days Your Cameras (Any Type), or Flash came with the Heavy Manual Book, Now it's just Partial Material Features the Rest You Have to Download Off the Computer to Understand How to Understand & Work Your Product Thoroughly!

"Compatible" typically means "fully compatible". In your case the SB-10 works just fine on the D5300, and will cause NO DAMAGE to your camera, even though it is seriously older than that body. It is just not "fully compatible" as it will have to be used fully manual, as will any other flash from that era. You will get no TTL metering on any Nikon flash older than the SB-400 model with your body.
I stand by my previous statement 100%
