I have a member of the senior's photo group, for which I do workshops at no charge, who needs a lens for the Canon Rebel. Someone gave him the camera, but without lens. He does not have much money as he is a pensioner living in a subsidized senior's home, so we are looking for something really, really cheap.
Thanks!
If you can't find a used nifty fifty dirt cheap, Yongnuo makes a pretty good knock off of the EF 50 1.8 and it sells new for less than most used Canon 50 1.8's.

There's currently a comparison review on DPReview.com for some Yongnuo lenses vs. the Nikon & Canon lenses of similar design. Conclusion was something like the Yongnuo lenses are plenty good, maybe even great if your budget is tight.
I use mine too much to consider ... but, have you looked at KEH and / or ebay? They run about $125 for the new model, probably less used.
Canon's 'Pumpkin Spice' refurb sale is showing their refurbished EF 50mm f1.8 STM in stock and on sale for $79.79.
Go with a Canon refurbished . You can't go wrong . Just go to the Canon site and order one of these great lenses . Have fun ...
