I know what a Canon SX620 is but I have no idea what a Canon OES 620 lens is and I have a lot of Canon stuff.

The Canon OES 620 was introduced in 1987 as a fantastic auto-focus, 35mm film SLR camera. I have a Canon Zoom 100-400 mm lens which was on the camera, and I don't like it. It is too heavy, and I don't want to zoom that much, and I can't spend any money on anything, but I can do a beautiful oil painting of someone's favorite photo. Unfortunately, my website with about 50 pictures of oil painting I've done is gone. I'll try to post some oil painting pictures from my other computer tomorrow.

Here's an update: I am really glad that I have a Canon zoom 100-300mm lens, but I really want a regular lens. I saw the beautiful birds in flight and birds on water forum, and I want to try taking those pictures, although I expect that my first attempts will be a disaster.

OK, you mean EOS, not OES. I remember the 620, it was the big brother to the 650. It's kit lenses were the EF 35-70 and the nifty fifty (EF 50 1.8). I'm confused, you say you have a EF 100-400 then you say you have the 100-300. Which is it, the 100-400 is an off white L series lens. There are at least 3 versions of the 100-300 lens, all black in color and one is an L series lens. The L series lenses all have a red band painted around the front of the lens. Either lens would be good for back yard birding, far better than a 50mm lens. How about a small light weight zoom lens. I have a few older Canon lenses in my collection that may help you out. Let me know and I will take a look to see what's in the cabinet.

Yes, I am interested. The lens is black and says "Canon Zoom Lens EF 100-300mm 1:5.6." No red band on lens. I just finished my first 24 pictures, 200 speed, Fuji roll in this camera. I'm afraid that my shaking was too much for any of these pictures I just took, including some chickadees on a bush. I just put in a new roll of Fujicolor Pro 400H - 36 exposures. I don't know what to do to the camera to tell it I have 400 speed film in there.

OK, that's the original 100-300 5.6 push pull zoom Canon introduced in 1987. New it sold for around $520 and today they are fetching anywhere between $40 and $100 depending on condition. That lens weighs about a pound and a half coupled to the EOS 620 your holding just over 3 pounds of camera (with lens). Have you thought about an decent inexpensive tripod instead of a smaller lens?

That's an excellent idea. A tripod would be perfect. I really like this lens after all. I put a PRO 400H film in it just now. How do I tell it that it is 400 speed film? what is ISO? I don't understand F-stop.

Here is a link to the cameras manual. //www.manualslib.com/manual/554976/Canon-Eos-620.html Just copy and paste it into your browsers address bar and it will take you to a downloadable copy of the manual.
ISO is the film speed or digital image sensor setting. F stops are the aperture settings. The smaller the number the larger the opening the more light the lens lets in. f/2.8 is fast, f/1.8 is faster, f/22 is slow. A lens with a faster maximum aperture say f/1.2 will be larger and heavier than a lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.8 and the faster the lens the more expensive it is. A f/1.8 85 mm Canon EF lens costs around $350, an EF 85 f/1.2 costs around $1900.
Would you possibly be interested in an older used Digital camera. The advantage to the digital camera is, no film needed therefore no developing costs. You just loaded the digital image files to your computer.

I have a very nice Sony digital camera that is at least 15 years old. It uses 64, 128, 256 MB memory sticks. I can't find an interface to get the images into a computer. My Sony computer with the slots for these memory sticks broke years ago. I can't afford a quality DSLR and I am impressed with the quality of this Canon EOS 620 camera. My husband had it on a shelf for 15 years, but it was safe because there was no battery nor film in it to ruin the camera. This Canon EOS 620 camera only needed a $10 battery, and film. As far as I have seen, this was top of the world quality in 1987-1989. I'm very happy. Now, I'll try to find a good tripod, rugged enough to take pictures of birds outside. This tripod is desperately needed. P.S. My older Sony digital camera even has night vision, and night "Framing" But what's the sense of it if I can't read the memory sticks? Digital stinks.

My very first digital camera was a Sony Mavica CD-300 that recorded onto mini compact discs. That camera is 18 years old and it still works and even though its only around 3 megapixels, the images it produces are pretty good.
WalMart.com sells a Sony memory stick reader that plugs into a USB port for $2. Digital doesn't stink, it's far more flexible and convenient than film. I shot film for over 25 years and I still have my old Canon AT-1, AE-1 and A-1 cameras and they still work but I can't do with them what I can do with my Canon and Nikon DSLR'S.
A 15 megapixel EOS 50D in good condition can be had for under $250.

Can you post a sample of your painting?

Yes, I can post samples of my oil paintings. I'll do it tomorrow. Too bad for me but Apple yanked my website I had with them that had all my quilts, watercolours, Oil paintings, pottery... Apple wanted to get out of the web-hosting business, and they didn't care about me.

Cathy, Last week I just bought the X-T2 with the 18-55 lens. Excellent camera. It weighs a little over a pound whereas my Nikon D750 with the new Tamron 24-70 G2 VC weighs almost 4 pounds. ~FiddleMaker
