Do you leave the battery out very long?

I think this may be the reason. It has happened to my P900 once when I kept it in the drawer for too long.

Thank you all for your information it was a referb from Adaroma for a Grand Canyon vacation next week. I just loose the information when I change batteries not when I shut it down. So for now I can put up with putting in the date and time when I change batteries and address the issue further with adaroma when I return. Thank You all again.

As one commenter suggested, the P900 indeed has a second battery. While some cameras have a replaceable button battery, most have them hardwired onto the camera's motherboard -- the P900 falls in the latter camp. Page 15 of the P900 reference manual discusses this battery; it is charged off your main (rechargeable) EN-EL23 battery and is fully charged after 10 hours; it can then maintain date and time for several days. The manual states that once this battery is exhausted, you must re-enter the date and time when the camera is turned on. You should also be aware that if you use the "U" shooting mode to create a custom set of settings, they will also be lost along with the date and time (see p.35).

I have never experienced this with my P900. If you are just swapping batteries and have experienced no issues with your main battery (ie, you are getting a few hundred shots per battery and when you are not shooting it should last days or weeks without requiring a charge), then your back-up battery is faulty and you will need to have it repaired or replaced by Adorama. If you have just one battery and you let it run out of juice, your clock battery will simply expire a few days later.

If the latter is the case, you might consider getting a dedicated battery charger (e.g. the Nikon MH-67P or third party equivalent) and a spare battery.

Hope that helps -- good luck!

I have a third party battery charger and 2 third party batteries and the camera acts the same way with any battery that I put in it. Your information was most helpful thank you very much.

That's not a good situation - having a non-replaceable battery, at least not user-replaceable. Shipping it back and forth and paying for the battery and labor could get expensive for a tiny battery. I'd like to see some follow-up on this.

I just bought a p900 and Everytime I change batteries all my settings are lost and I have to put in the date and time all over again. Has anybody else had this problem? Do I need to send it back for repair?
Thank you

The Nikon Coolpix lines all use a rechargeable internal battery for maintaining internal information when the main battery is removed, but they only last so long and then are recharged when the main battery is re-inserted. Like any other rechargeable battery, if left to totally die for an extended period of time, they will no longer accept a recharge. My guess is that this camera sat with a dead battery, or no battery in it for an extended period and the internal battery has failed because of that. The internal battery is a Nikon repair item and cannot be changed by anyone without the proper tools and knowledge.

Most likely the internal battery is bad. Just like computers there is a battery that powers the chip that holds the info you are losing. I understand it is mentioned in the P950 manual as a Z9501. Check you owner's manual.

Never mind. I didn't see MT Shooter's post.

When I get back from vacation I will let you know all the details of what happened with the battery. I'm not going to send it before not enough time.

Just got back from vacation. Took 1168 photographs with the P900 no problems what so ever except for the loosing setting when I changed batteries. Adaromas warranty was 30 days so sent it in for Nikon warranty. Sent it in on Oct. 20 and got it back on Oct. 26. Repair said replaced main circuit board, calibrate AF and updated firmware. I could not be happier with Adaroma in how fast I got the camera when I bought it, in Nikon repair when I sent it in for service and the way the camera has worked for me.
