Excellent photo and composition. The rattlers are out in large numbers here in the Tucson area. Fire department is quite busy clearing them from neighborhoods.

Great shot of the rattlesnake.

I see you are somewhat new to the forum. If you click on, Quote Reply, before answering we will all know who you are specifically answering. Believe me it helps a lot to keep the thread sorted out. Also if you click on, Store Original, it will allow us to see a clearer photo.

I would like to see more of your photos,

Dennis

Actually I had D500 Nikon with Nikon 300mm and 1.4 teleconverter so I was at a 630 full frame equivalent.
I attempted to repost the original soyou could see its eyes, I am just getting the hang of this site.
Cheers

I am just getting into wildlife photography and enjoy all types of animals including the poisoness ones.
In this day I came across this rattler crossing a dirt road and thought to myself why pull out the camera it is dusty and the snake is just crossing the road no real composition.
I decided to stop the car and reluctantly removed the gear
By this time the snake had curled up under a bush in a retaliation pose with its head nicely positioned in the light.
Thank you for looking

Nice shot. Had one under my trailer while wintering at Quartzsite AZ. Got some great pictures after I got him out of there. In the mean time he bit both of my dogs, cost me $1200 to get the dogs fixed . I have since purchased a 3 foot snake grabber, it will work better than a stick next time. Expensive snake pictures.

Great image!!!!
Just remember stay at least 1.5 X the snakes length away. They say a snake can strike 1/2 its length.

And you only had your 24 MM wide angle macro lens! Sweet that close without having to go to emergency afterward. Sharpness at nose AND eyes make this a wonderful shot! Congratulations.

Yes. Be sure to stretch it out and measure before you sit down for pictures.

LOL
I hope the op could make a good estimate. Also the reason for suggesting 3x the strike distance.
